The Fear of the Lord is the presupposition & prerequisite for acquiring wisdom

The promises of getting wisdom, instruction, understanding and insight and to receive instruction, in righteousness, justice, and equity, and to give prudence to the simple, and to receive knowledge and discretion as promised in the book of proverbs chapter one verse one to v6, depends totally on v 7 the fear of the Lord.

Proverbs 1:1–7 (ESV)
1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
2    To know wisdom and instruction,
to understand words of insight,
3    to receive instruction in wise dealing,
in righteousness, justice, and equity;
4    to give prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the youth—
5    Let the wise hear and increase in learning,
and the one who understands obtain guidance,
6    to understand a proverb and a saying,
the words of the wise and their riddles.
7    The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.

What’s the Fear of the Lord? And how to get it?

It’s a disposition cultivated in relationship with God

It is a disposition cultivated in relationship with God. It entails the humility to accept the book’s teaching out of the conviction that God upholds it, rewarding the faithful with life and punishing the unfaithful with death. [1]

Disposition : the predominant or prevailing tendency of one’s spirits; natural mental and emotional outlook or mood; characteristic attitude.

Dictionry.com: a natural tendency to do something, or to have or develop something:

It’s a natural disposition or tendency y of a person through cultivation of relationship with the Lord. That natural disposition or tendency with God doesn’t come easy call my definitely is not an intellectual assent or understanding but it really is an experiential personal walk with God in this relationship based on the understanding of the word of God. It is being refined by tough experiences of down and cry to God for help and how he is lifted up by God in the process. It is through this thick thin and thick experience with God that one becomes stronger in faith with God and emerging and cultivating that sense of fear of God. This should really develop like God centered presence in his life and thinking and philosophy.

knowledge and discretion to the youth—
5    Let the wise hear and increase in learning,

Looking at all these wonderful human attributes and abilities like wisdom, instruction, wise dealing, insight, righteousness, justice, equity, prudence discretion: we definitely need the fear of the Lord as foundation premise that must be there before we can get any of this. So what is the correlation between the fear of the Lord and all these wonderful virtuous attributes and abilities for us? This is precisely the difference between Christianity and all other religions, because all religions centered on the ethics or morality morals that need to be followed and complied with, while Christianity focuses on the God man Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I am the way the truth and the life”,  Jesus never told us to follow the commands he gives you;  they are the way to God the Father and me. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life.

So it is the same thing here we need to cultivate the relationship with God and to gain that fear of the Lord there’s ultimately so vital for us to even develop wisdom call my discretion, wise dealings, prudence, righteousness, justice and equity. It’s because it is impossible to gain any of this without the fear of God our Lord.

That cultivating requires time and submission, and a strong desire and thirst for the Lord. Remember David writes:

Psalm 42:1–3 (ESV) 1    As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2    My soul thirsts for God,for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? 3    My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long “Where is your God?”

How did David cultivate such thirst and pants for God? Because he was so destitute going thru some real hard times, he was driven to the Lord. As a deer pants for water, so my soul pants for the Lord. What a beautiful intimate and fantastic language right here! This is a man who longs for the Lord, and not just wanting to be blessed by the Lord. He wants God’s deliverance, but above all, he wants the Lord himself. The Lord is the source of all blessings and love.

That’s how you develop your fear of the Lord.

Fear of the Lord is the conviction that God rewards the faithful with life and punishes the unfaithful with death

It entails the humility to accept the book’s teaching out of the conviction that God upholds it, rewarding the faithful with life and punishing the unfaithful with death. It also is an attitude that shapes one’s worldview and serves as the seedbed in which wisdom might be cultivated.[2]

The conviction that God rewards the faithful with life and punishes the unfaithful with death it’s a tremendously important conviction that comes from the Bible and that is the premise for the fear of the Lord. God rewards the faithful with life, that life there is the life on earth now and the eternal life to come. So that is the promise of God that if we are faithful to him and his word, living in obedience to the commandments of the word of God in Christ Jesus like Jesus said in Matthew 28:18-20, we will be rewarded with the life of abundance.

Jesus said in Matthew 28: 20 “To teach them to obey everything I’ve taught you” is tremendously important and that is coming from the fear of the Lord in the positive sense because you are so awed by him. Jesus also said I’ve come to give you life, life of abundance. I think the biggest problem is in the process of journey in this world many times we still struggle as being faithful with Jesus’ commands and the word of God, many feel like being lost and that’s when the cultural forces and the satanic forces of temptations and insinuations all coming to attack us spiritually. Many Christians are therefore shaken up and that’s why Hebrews 11 says our life journey is a journey of faith. In a sense our Christian walk with God is so multifaceted that it is hard to pin it down, but it all has to be anchored on the Lord Jesus Christ our God.

The second part of the conviction is punishing the unfaithful with death, that death is not only the physical spiritual death on earth now, but also the eternal death coming up and that is going to be very ugly and devastatingly frightful because it will be hell eternal fire. It is something most Christians do not even want to talk about because it’s almost like too discouraging, and also non-Christians definitely do not want to hear that. But the fear of the Lord must also be balanced by the conviction that the unfaithful will be punished with death the eternal death. Facing the eternal judgment of God is not something to be glance over but it’s something to be wrestled with and to birth that eternal conviction in Christ because he’s the only one who can deliver us from such peril.

Therefore we must have this two in balance in producing the conviction of this two that will give us the healthy balanced fear of the Lord.

¿Por qué quiere Dios que lo busquemos? ¿Y nos promete que si lo buscamos con todo nuestro corazón, lo encontraremos? (Jer 29)

Dios prometió en Jeremías 29:14: «Seré hallado por vosotros —declara el Señor—, y restauraré vuestra cautividad y os reuniré de entre todas las naciones a las que os he arrojado». Este es un versículo verdaderamente reconfortante y tranquilizador que muestra la promesa de Dios. Pero quiero explorar con ustedes por qué quiere Dios que lo invoquemos, le oremos y lo busquemos.

Bueno, la respuesta es bastante simple y se encuentra en el versículo 11: «…porque yo sé los planes que tengo para vosotros —declara el Señor—, planes de bienestar y no de calamidad, y de daros un futuro y una esperanza». El versículo 12 es significativo porque dice: «Entonces me invocaréis, vendréis y oraréis a mí, y yo os escucharé». La palabra “entonces” surge del versículo 11, que habla del plan de Dios para prosperaros, no para haceros daño, sino para daros un futuro y una esperanza. Este es Israel, que estaba en el exilio en Babilonia, y fue enviado allí debido a su desobediencia a Dios y a su pecado ante él. Dios los exilió allí durante 70 años con el propósito principal de disciplinarlos y enseñarles a ser humildes.

Motivación para buscarlo y orar a Dios

V11 …porque yo sé los planes que tengo para vosotros, para prosperaros, para daros un futuro y una esperanza

v10 Dios dijo: «Cumpliré mi promesa y os haré volver». V11 «…porque yo sé los planes que tengo para vosotros, para prosperaros, para daros un futuro y una esperanza» es una motivación poderosa. Es una promesa. Una gran promesa.

La palabra «prosperar» en hebreo:

—1. prosperidad, éxito: a) Lv 26:6 Nu 6:26 Dt 23:7 Is 48:18 60:17, 48:22 = 57:21 52:7 = Nah 2:1 שְׁלוֹם הָעִיר Jr 29:7, מַחְשְׁבוֹת שָׁ׳ Jr 29:11 (en lugar de 7b).

Eso es lo que uno quiere saber para tener la fuerza, la determinación y la resistencia necesarias para seguir esperando en el Señor y no rendirse, pues Dios lo prometió. Pero no sabemos cuánto tiempo lleva, pero muchas veces Dios usa este tipo de situaciones para moldearnos. Así que, si estás pasando por momentos de espera y clamando a Dios durante mucho tiempo y aún no has escuchado de él, estos versículos serán muy fortalecedores para ti y para mí, así que debemos aferrarnos a la promesa de Dios.

Porque esas palabras que dijo: «Conozco mis planes para ustedes, planes de bienestar y no de mal, planes para darles esperanza y un futuro», son la premisa o la base para que Dios diga en el versículo 12: «Entonces me invocarán, vendrán a orarme, y yo los escucharé».

Y Dios es tan bondadoso al prometernos que tiene un plan para nuestra prosperidad y para darnos esperanza en el futuro, antes de decir en el versículo 12: «Entonces me invocarán, vendrán a orarme», y prometió escucharnos. Medita sobre “Yo conozco los planes para nosotros, un plan para prosperarnos, no para dañarnos, un plan para darnos esperanza y un futuro”.

Así que, amigos, es fundamental comprender primero el versículo 11 e interiorizarlo, porque una vez que realmente conocemos la promesa de Dios: “Yo conozco los planes para nosotros, un plan para prosperarnos, no para dañarnos, un plan para darnos esperanza y un futuro”, entonces podemos establecernos en la presencia de Dios, invocarlo y orarle, ya sea por un período corto o largo, incluso hasta que nos escuche y responda. No sabemos cuánto tiempo tardará en responder. Pero lo que sí sabemos se basa en su promesa de un plan para prosperarnos, darnos esperanza y un futuro; por lo tanto, podemos perseverar y poner nuestra esperanza en Dios en Cristo sin vacilar. Basados ​​en esa promesa, debemos interiorizar en nuestro corazón que Dios lo hará por nosotros; por lo tanto, invocaremos su ayuda continuamente y sin rendirnos. Creo que es muy importante que sigamos orándole incluso si no recibe respuesta, porque él prometió y seguiremos adelante.

En cualquier versículo 13, Dios dice: «Me buscarán y me encontrarán, porque me buscarán de todo su corazón». Ahora bien, la condición es buscar a Dios con todo nuestro corazón, lo que significa nunca rendirse, ni siquiera por un largo período.

Dios prometió: «Yo seré hallado por ustedes —declara el Señor— y los haré volver del cautiverio».

Puedes aplicar esto a ti mismo, sea cual sea Perdidos en sus vidas y en cualquier lucha que hayan tenido, por cualquier cosa que oren por restauración. Dios prometió rescatarnos de la pérdida que el enemigo ha causado a sus familias, vidas, ministerios o lo que sea. Y el tiempo de restauración llegará y Dios nos prosperará. Me encanta que Él tenga un plan para mí y me apegaré a él. Y espero que ustedes también. Amén.

Mengapa Tuhan mahu kita mencari Dia? Dan berjanji bahawa jika kita mencarinya dengan sepenuh hati kita akan menemuinya? (Jer 29)

Tuhan menjanjikan Yeremia 29:14 yang mengatakan. “Aku akan didapati olehmu, firman Tuhan, dan Aku akan memulihkan keadaanmu dan mengumpulkan kamu dari segala bangsa yang telah Kuhalaukan kamu.” Ini benar-benar ayat yang sangat menghiburkan dan meyakinkan yang menunjukkan janji Tuhan. Tetapi saya ingin meneroka dengan anda mengapa Tuhan mahu kita berseru kepadanya dan berdoa kepadanya dan mencari dia?

Jawapannya agak mudah dan itu adalah dalam ayat 11, “… kerana Aku ini mengetahui rancangan-rancangan yang ada pada-Ku mengenai kamu, demikianlah firman Tuhan, rancangan untuk membuat kamu sejahtera dan bukan untuk mencelakakan kamu, dan untuk memberikan kepadamu masa depan yang penuh harapan.” Sekarang v12 adalah penting kerana ia berkata, “Kemudian kamu akan berseru kepada-Ku dan datang dan berdoa kepada-Ku, dan Aku akan mendengar kamu.”

Perkataan ‘kemudian’ adalah hasil daripada ayat 11 bercakap tentang rancangan Tuhan untuk memakmurkan anda dan bukan untuk membahayakan anda tetapi untuk memberi anda masa depan dan harapan. Ini adalah Israel yang melalui pengasingan di Babel, dihantar ke Babel kerana ketidaktaatan mereka kepada Tuhan dan dosa mereka di hadapannya dan Tuhan mengasingkan mereka ke Babel selama 70 tahun untuk tujuan pada dasarnya untuk mendisiplinkan mereka dan untuk mengajar mereka merendahkan diri.

Motivasi untuk mencari dia dan berdoa kepada Tuhan

V11 … kerana Aku mengetahui rancangan-rancangan yang ada pada-Ku mengenai kamu, untuk memakmurkan kamu, untuk memberikan kepadamu masa depan dan harapan.

v10 Tuhan berfirman, “Aku akan memenuhi janji-Ku kepadamu dan membawa kamu kembali.” v11 “…kerana Aku mengetahui rancangan-rancangan yang ada pada-Ku untuk kamu, untuk memakmurkan kamu, untuk memberikan kamu masa depan dan harapan” adalah motivasi yang kuat. Itu janji. Janji besar.

Perkataan ‘makmur’ dalam bahasa Ibrani:

—1. kemakmuran, kejayaan: a) Lv 26:6 Bil 6:26 Dt 23:7 Is 48:18 60:17, 48:22 = 57:21 52:7 = Nah 2:1 שְׁלוֹם הָעִיר Jr 29:7, מְַבְב שָׁ׳ Jr 29:11 (bukan 7b).

Itulah jenis perkara yang anda ingin tahu supaya anda boleh mempunyai kekuatan dan keazaman dan stamina untuk terus menunggu Tuhan dan tidak berputus asa kerana Tuhan berjanji. Tetapi berapa lama kita tidak tahu tetapi banyak kali Tuhan menggunakan situasi seperti ini untuk membentuk dan membentuk kita. Kerana kata-kata yang dia katakan “Aku tahu rancangan-Ku untuk kamu merancang untuk memakmurkan kamu dan bukan untuk mencederakan kamu, rancangan untuk memberi kamu harapan dan masa depan“, itu adalah premis atau asas bagi Tuhan untuk berkata dalam ayat 12 “Maka kamu akan berseru kepada-Ku dan berdoa kepada-Ku dan Aku akan mendengarkan kamu.”

Dan Tuhan sangat baik untuk berjanji untuk meyakinkan kita bahawa Dia mempunyai rancangan untuk kita makmur dan dan untuk memberi kita harapan pada masa depan terlebih dahulu sebelum Dia berkata dalam v12 maka kamu akan memanggil saya dan datang dan berdoa kepada saya dan dia berjanji untuk mendengar kita.

Renungkan “Saya tahu rancangan untuk kita, rancangan untuk memakmurkan kita supaya tidak membahayakan kita, rancangan untuk memberi kita harapan dan masa depan”

Jadi orang-orang adalah sangat penting untuk memahami ayat 11 terlebih dahulu dan menghayatinya kerana apabila kita benar-benar mengetahui bahawa janji Tuhan: iaitu “Aku mengetahui rancangan untuk kita, rancangan untuk memakmurkan kita, bukan untuk membahayakan kita, rancangan untuk memberi kita harapan dan masa depan,” maka kita boleh menetap di hadapan Tuhan dan berseru kepada Tuhan dan berdoa kepada-Nya dan sehingga Dia mendengar kita walaupun dalam tempoh yang singkat atau lama. Berapa lama masa yang diambil untuk dia menjawab, kami tidak tahu. Tetapi apa yang kita ketahui adalah berdasarkan janji-Nya untuk rancangan untuk memakmurkan kita dan memberi kita harapan dan masa depan, oleh itu kita boleh bertahan dan menaruh harapan kita kepada Tuhan dalam Kristus tanpa goyah. Berdasarkan janji itu kita mesti menghayati dalam hati kita bahawa Tuhan akan melakukannya untuk kita oleh itu kita akan berseru kepada-Nya secara berterusan dan tanpa berputus asa. Aku akan mengumpulkan kamu dari segala bangsa dan tempat di mana kamu telah Aku buang, demikianlah firman Tuhan, dan Aku akan membawa kamu kembali ke tempat dari mana Aku membawa kamu ke dalam pembuangan.

Mana-mana ayat 13 Tuhan berkata, “Kamu akan mencari Aku dan mendapati Aku apabila kamu mencari Aku dengan segenap hatimu.” Sekarang syaratnya ialah mencari Tuhan dengan sepenuh hati yang bermaksud jangan berputus asa walaupun dalam tempoh yang lama.

Tuhan berjanji, “Aku akan didapati oleh kamu, demikianlah firman Tuhan dan Aku akan membawa kamu kembali dari pembuangan.”

Anda boleh menerapkannya kepada diri sendiri apa sahaja itu hilang dalam hidup anda dan apa sahaja yang anda perjuangkan, apa sahaja yang anda doakan untuk pemulihan. Tuhan berjanji untuk mengembalikan kita daripada kehilangan apa yang telah dimusnahkan oleh musuh kepada keluarga atau nyawa atau pelayanan anda atau apa sahaja. Dan masa pemulihan akan datang dan Tuhan akan memakmurkan kita.

Saya suka fakta bahawa Dia mempunyai rancangan untuk saya dan saya akan berpegang pada itu. Dan saya harap awak juga begitu. Amin.
