In Mark chapter 3 Jesus encountered a very interesting incident when he was in the temple or synagogue. He saw a man the withered arm in the synagogue, and the Pharisees were waiting to pounce on him seeing whether he will break the Sabbath for doing the work of healing the man’s withered arm.

Mark 3:1–6

¹ He entered a synagogue again; and a man was there whose hand was withered. ² And they were watching Him closely to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. ³ He said to the man with the withered hand, “Get up and come forward!” ⁴ And He said to them, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do harm, to save a life or to kill?” But they kept silent.⁵ After looking around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.⁶ The Pharisees went out and immediately began conspiring with the Herodians against Him, as to how they might put Him to death.

Jesus knowing what they got in mind , asked them this question: “ Is it lawful to kill or to save life on Sabbath day?”  all these guys were in silence and then Jesus was grieved with the hardness of their heart.

Hardened Heart

Now I will pick up this word hardened heart; it is the biggest problem. So let me finish this story , Jesus went on and told that with the man with the withered arm to stretch out his hand, and he did and was healed instantly!

 Jesus saved life but these Pharisees were prepared to kill life for the sake of keeping those are the Old Testament in what hypocrites do! And if their kids fell into a well their cow fell into the well or whatever on Sabbath, they will save them!

But here it is a fellow Israelite, a fellow Jewish men, a fellow brother in the synagogue with a withered arm, they will refuse him to be healed.  

Withered Arm—takes a huge miracle to be healed

Though the Lord Jesus Christ is not with us today we have the Holy Spirit with us today to heal!  With the withered atm,  it will take a huge miracle to do that even with charismatic churches! My point is that people’s hearts are hardened , and that is that is absolutely the root problems so many sins in life.

With hardened heart, people find excuses to skirt around the Word of God

It’s not that people don’t want to follow God but they find excuses to do  they plan to do and defy the bigger picture who God is . He would not try to keep the laws at the expense of destroying lives. Jesus wanted to save and heal, and the law is fulfilled by him on the cross if you want the law. He died on the cross and fulfilled that law or the wrath of God the condemnation of God fell upon him so that we can be here, so that we can be saved now.

I do want to talk about the hardness of hearts if you apply that today to Christians today, there are many cases of Christians they skirt around the more important things of the Bible because of hardened hearts. You see when the hearts are hardened, people find a way to skirt around.

Given with people’s hardened hearts, they would not listen to the word of God. The real thing about the word of God is to love the Lord your God with all your heart.  But if they love something else more, it becomes an impediment , a hindrance to a Christian’s own desire to do something that’s contrary.

We are disappointed that Christian could possibly find a way to skirt around that to justify himself or herself just like the Jewish Pharisees were doing as they tried to justify themselves by saying they said you can’t heal the guy on Sabbath. So Sabbath is more important than a man’s life?? Go let the guy be withered hand stay withered.

Watch against Hardening of heart

It’s disgraceful that we may laugh at the hard reality, but this is exactly many of us do it in life with justification to expense with what is important because of hardened hearts!  Hardening is the most dangerous thing because it doesn’t happen overnight seriously.

No one could deconstruct from and disbelief in Christ Jesus overnight it’s always a process a little bit, a little bit and not much and the devil is working overtime to sow doubts to sow all these things to this to your hearts. That’s what he did to Eve, as he sowed the dubious seduction offering. This is something folks what we need to watch! Don’t let your heart be hardened because there’s a lot of ways we can skirt around this thing.

Individualism does not even work for himself or herself

Let God be God and don’t let your emotions be go wild. Your individuality, your sexuality doesn’t define you. Tim Keller said “ It is my individual choice I will make decision for myself as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone. It is selfish and a destructive thing because you think you can do something at your own.  No!  You are going to cost so much pain to people around you who love you, by making such foolish decisions contradictory to the word of God!  You think it’s just you, and wanted others leave you alone! But do you understand that it’s not really true ? Just yourself ? Because it’s very selfish very self-centered because you cause hurts to a lot of people close to you. Maybe a lot of people going to bear the pain for the rest of their lives! Get that philosophical thought individualistic postmodernism people work for yourself is wrong! Love and submit to the Word of God so don’t harden your hearts, don’t let your hearts be hardened!

Solution is to Meditate upon the Word of the Lord

Meditate on the Word of God daily, and God’s blessings will follow you.

Psalm 1:1–3 ¹ Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of scoffers! ² But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, And on His Law he meditates day and night. ³ He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season, And its leaf does not wither;And in whatever he does, he prospers.

Bonhoeffer wrote on Christ’s response towards the harvest is due to his compassion for the sheep without shepherd, harassed and helpless, (Matt 9:36-37), stirs my heart. Very often we wanted to avoid labelling evangelism as the need of the lost souls, but rather as obedience to the Great Commission somehow under the predestination of God. Also, we see in Manhattan how the intellectuals emphasize the contemporary thoughts of the secularized West, and how we need to mobilize our apologetics philosophical arguments to “sink” into the minds of those intellectual educated city folks, and I agree we need that, but our primo basis for such action to evangelize must be the compassion for the lost! They are harassed and helpless and like sheep without shepherds! I believe this motivation should fire up folks in church far more, and definitely in line with what the Lord does. Also, I notice reading the Matt 9:36-37 context, I noticed that Jesus was proclaiming the gospel of the Kingdom and also healing the sick. I believe healing the sick, physically, spiritually, emotionally are all definitely part of the harvest works. Reformed churches will do well without rejecting healing.

Cheap grace is the justification of sin without the justification of the repentant sinners. It is the grace that we bestow on ourselves. –That’s so true when man made grace that we bestow upon ourselves, like we have an idol, when we imagine the kind of God we want in our minds. That exist in many people’s minds, Christians and non-Christians. It’s the forgiveness without repentance, I believe that’s the huge cause of what’s the nominal Christianity in church today, and a spiritual disease that slows down the growth and sanctification in so many Christians today. And it goes without saying, discipleship is conveniently dropped via cheap grace.

This morning I got news from Charlie Chi that our dear friend John Barilla, who just had Covid a week ago, has gone to be with the Lord. I called him immediately and wept. John Barilla is a man with strong scriptural conviction, been a pastor before, and he has a MDiv, and gone through a lot in life. Above all, he is a child of God in Christ Jesus and a good friend of mine and many folks in LIALC church.

He has been really God’s Providence to Me & My Calling for Ministry

John has been such a dear friend to me, and in some strange way, he spent the last six months of his life in my first six months in LIALC church. If it were not for John’s constant feedback, interaction, review, comments unto my preaching, theology, my blogs, and tiktoks with encouragements and feedback,  and helpful guidance into ministry in LIALC church, I don’t think I would be the interim pastor for LIALC English today. It’s like as if the Lord has set it up for us to cross our paths, in this time. And let me say this, all these will not be in vain. Whatever the Lord started, it’s him who started it, He will finish it with GLORY!

Philippians 1: ³ I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, ⁴ always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, ⁵ because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. ⁶ And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

John has played an absolutely crucial part in God’s arrangement and set up and timing to make this happen. I have only known him for six months, but I felt like I have known him for six years! I am always looking forward to his feedback on my tiktoks, my blogs. He not only affirmed me and encouraged me, but he also rebuked me a couple times over theology and worshipping song.

Today, all these is gone! But today, we all know he has joined the heavenly hosts in the balm of our Lord Jesus Christ and heavenly Father. While he debated me regarding the millennium rule of Christ on earth vs my covenant theology, I told him that I will be writing a response on why Covenant Theology is the right way over the Millennium rule belief. But today, that’s all gone. I would love to show him when we meet in heaven.

I can’t thank God enough for John, who has been a trusted friend, and many times, coaching me with the dynamics of the local church and also with his review of my theology and his encouragement.

John’s Emailed me Warmly to Encourage me to Welcome me before my 1^st Preaching in LIALC (May 2021)

His writing is first class, in his many emails exchange with me, he writes much better than me. When I started preaching in LIALC (Long Island Abundant Life Church) in May 2021, he was the first one who welcomed me in his warm email, even before I got there.

Greetings Al….Charlie Chi informed me that you were coming to LIALC this Sunday to preach and I just wanted to personally welcome you. This week I spent some time reading your blog posts and listening to some of your You Tube videos and I found myself very much in agreement with the emphases of your ministry. In reviewing your posts, I noticed that you have a vision for combining the strengths of Reformed doctrine with the charismatic openness to the work of the Holy Spirit. I agree that they actually complement one another and I affirm the importance of preaching the “full gospel”. Such warm email from John day one even before my first preaching assignment in LIALC, I was warmly encouraged.

He has always joined our prayer meetings; he leads worship with Charlie and Johnny on Sundays. I have asked why he didn’t choose the path of becoming a pastor with his pastoral heart and his MDiv? John has confessed his personal constraints and in fact he had pastored and planted a church before in Long Island.

Theology of Calling & Finishing the Race

One thing I do notice as my wife has said, is John often prayed for Jesus to come soon. He is always looking toward the eschatological age when Jesus returns as the King to wrap up the world. Greatly burdened to fight against persecutions in laws, etc., he often brings them up in prayers with us.

Now come to the hard theological part. Why did the Lord take him away, seemingly such a premature timing? He wanted to write worship songs, and he had a bunch of them, I am hoping Charlie and Johnny will go ahead to publish them, sing them in our church.

We know that the Lord knows better. He is the sovereign God, He gives, and He takes away. I wonder whether the timing of this is in God’s will. I for one definitely doubt that from human point of view, but the Lord in His divine eyes have seen it differently. I have to believe the Lord has called him to do the things He has called him. And that’s blessed many people in LIALC. I am one of the most obvious recipients of John’s ministry. John has given me a few books to read to encourage my ministry, my thinking theologically and philosophically, and I remembered the first time he gave me a book, he told me that the Lord has given him a ministry of blessing others. So he insisted on blessing me, and that’s like after my second preaching there in LIALC! And not only once, but a few times. I got to know recently that he has been driving a school bus, and financially somewhat tight and yet he bought books for me.

Let us Run with Perseverance the Race Marked out for Us

Hebrews 12: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, ² fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

John had run the race God marked out for him. Overcoming obstacles, family life, financial life, ministry life, he was used by God in so many ways, and we all say, “Thank you Lord for our friend”.

I will miss him in church. He will be greatly missed in LIALC and other friends from other churches in Long Island.

John 11 ²⁵ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; ²⁶ and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.

We will all meet in heaven. Amen.

夏娃和亚当的堕落

任何倒退都必须以上帝为中心并起源于上帝

这就是今天魔鬼如何欺骗许多基督徒，使他们倒退的方式。这被称为对上帝是谁的重新定义。任何倒退都必须以上帝的身份为中心并源于上帝，而不是你自己的环境本身，尽管这可能是一个因素。但真正的事情是你对上帝对你的理解和信念。夏娃听到魔鬼的话后怀疑上帝。因此，真正的问题是你是否对上帝有信心，即使在不确定、困难或诱惑的时候也相信他？

我确信，年轻人背离上帝的主要原因之一是世界的诱惑。不知何故，世界的奉献变得对上帝在他的经文中所应许的更具吸引力。不知何故，世界观和来自世俗欲望的诱惑，在一个人的生命中挑战了上帝的正直和圣洁。一个被世俗力量引诱的基督徒，就像夏娃被蛇引诱一样，开始在他或她的脑海中想象一个新的神，以妥协并满足他或她的眼睛所渴望的东西。就像夏娃看到那果子悦目，

6 妇人见这树好作食物，又赏心悦目，又想使人有智慧，就摘下果子吃了，又给了一些给和她在一起的丈夫，他吃了。

推翻她对她的上帝，她的创造者的信念和信仰？你看出她有多脆弱了吗？如果我们不与上帝同行并用我们的心深深地认识他，我们在这个世界上会多么脆弱？

夏娃重新定义了上帝是谁和他的承诺

她所做的是，在完全接受了魔鬼的话的同时，扭曲了上帝的应许和命令，重新定义了上帝的应许和命令。短短几分钟，神的话全部被抛到窗外。今天对基督徒来说最危险的事情是重新定义上帝是谁，以及他的应许。魔鬼的诱惑是甜美的，一半是真实的，一半是谎言的，完全背叛了上帝。当这在一个人的头脑中发展时，他或她正慢慢地被引诱远离高夫的话的真相。

神救赎的回应

但上帝立即介入，对蛇宣布诅咒。

创世记 3:15 (ESV)
15 我要与你和女人为仇，
在你的后代和她的后代之间；
他要伤你的头，
你要伤他的脚后跟。”
上帝在女人的后裔和蛇的后裔之间建立了敌意。你知道耶稣就是这样在十字架上压碎了蛇的头，魔鬼在十字架上，当他在十字架上被杀时，他的脚后跟被压伤了。三天后他复活，摧毁了死亡的权势和掌权的撒旦。

浪子跌至人生谷底后归来

他的父亲从很远的地方看到了他，看到了他，心生怜悯，跑过去抱住他，亲吻他。父亲的爱和同情本质上是由上帝的恩典赋予的。那种爱和同情，化解了他对儿子本应有的愤怒和失望。

The question of backsliding for Christians is real, and it has hit many Christians, countless, I am sure, including myself. I also have a story to tell. Mine is minor kind of way, but I have seen some Christians got hit in a major way, to the point that it makes you wonder if there is any more of Christ left in the person. That’s totally devastating to the person and his or her loved ones. We certainly cannot take backsliding lightly. I have never really understood how can anyone backslide that much. The stark reality is that you see even the so called big church pastors of celebrity pastors deconstructed their faith, and left the faith all together.

What happened to Jesus’s words that no one can snatch you out of my father’s hands. Does that not stand? Or is the “you” not including certain people? Reformed also believe that once a Christian always be one. It’s not possible to lose something which you don’t work for. It’s something given by grace to you. Nice words, but we are dealing with the reality of life.

The Fall of Eve and then Adam

The parable of Jesus came to me big time on the Prodigal Son. I remember when I was backsliding myself in my first year A Level high school, I went to a boarding school with an Anglican chapel where the vicar or priest preached nothing from the bible but everything from the social life niceties and justice. I even questioned the chaplain why did he not preach from the bible? Its so deadly, and crafty of the devil to attack Christians not in the upfront way, but in the roundabout way, subtle way. Its wolf in the sheep’s skin. Literally that’s how Satan got Eve and got her to fall and who dragged along her husband, the man Adam. Satan offered a modified version of who God is. A subtle message. Its never a straight in your face denial of Yahweh or God, but rather a modified version of the gospel. God clearly told Adam and Eve to not eat that forbidden fruit, and if they did they would surely die. No reason given, and God doesn’t need to, as He is sovereign and God. But Satan modified it, by telling Eve that if she took it, she would be like God.

Genesis 3:4–5 (ESV)

⁴ But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. ⁵ For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

You see how the devil lied? First he contradicted God straight by denying that they would not die if they eat it. Interestingly, the serpent spoke to the woman, not the man. And even more interesting is that the man when given the fruit by his wife to eat, did not even question or uttered a word, before he also ate it.

Satan offered Eve something that’s seemed attractive on the outside and premium: she would be like God, knowing good and evil. What do you mean knowing good and evil? They already know good and evil. The only real difference after the fall is that they knew they were naked, and shame came into their world. Is that what you mean by knowing good and evil? I think not. Satan uses the words ”God knows when you eat….putting God as selfish, not wanting them to know good and evil. In fact they were created in God’s image, definitely like God, not through disobedience to be like God? Its more like Satan!

Any backsliding has to center on and originate from who God is

That’s how the devil today deceive many Christians and caused them to backslide. It’s called the redefinition of who God is. Any backsliding has to center on and originate from who God is, not on your own circumstances per se, though it may be a factor. But the real deal is your understanding and conviction of who God is to you. Eve doubted God when hearing what the devil said. The real question therefore is do you have the faith in God, and trust in Him even at times of uncertainty or hardship or temptations?

I know for sure, one of the primary reasons for young people to backslide from God is the lure of the world. Somehow, the world’s offer becomes more attractive to what God has promised in his scriptures. Somehow, the worldview, and the temptations from the worldly desire, has challenged the integrity and holiness of God in a person’s life. A Christian , being seduced by the worldly forces, like Eve was seduced by the serpent, began to imagine a new god in his or her mind, in order to compromise and suit what the person desires with his or her eyes. Like Eve when she saw the fruit was pleasing to the eyes,

Genesis 3:6 (ESV)

⁶ So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.

A delight to her eyes. Temptations start from physical, from the external forces that enter the mind. First to was her eyes, then it went to her mind, the fruit would make her wise. How on earth a mere two sentence from the serpent would overthrow her conviction and faith in her God, her creator? You see how vulnerable she was? How vulnerable we would be in this world, if we don’t walk with God and know him deeply with our hearts?

Eve Redefined who God is and His Promises

What she did was she redefined the promises and command of God by twisting it as she totally accepted the words from the devil. In a mere few minutes, all God’s words were thrown out of the window. The most dangerous thing for Christians today is the redefining of who God is, and His promises. By the seduction of the devil that comes in sweet, half truth, half lies, that completely rebels against God. As this develops in a person’s mind, he or she is slowly being seduced away from the truth of Goof’s words.

God’s Response of Redemption

But God immediately stepped in to pronounce a curse on the serpent.

Genesis 3:15 (ESV)

¹⁵    I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring;       he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

God puts an enmity between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. You know that’s how Jesus crushed the head of the serpent, the devil on the cross, and Jesus was bruised on his heel on the cross as he was killed on the cross. He resurrected three days after, and destroyed the power of death and the one who holds the power, Satan.

So would God bring back those backsliders to himself? If we look deep in the scriptures, it is clear that God is looking to bring them back. Look at the parable of the prodigal Son, when God the Father was waiting for the younger son to return even he has squandered half of his properties. He loved him. Jesus gave parable that there is more joy in heaven when a sinner repents than a hundred saints. Jesus gave teaching of a shepherd looking for his one lost sheep, and he left behind his 100 sheep to look for his one lost sheep, and when he found it, he brings it back with such rejoicing. What’s all these? This is showing the heart of our Father God. He wants to bring them back.

So would he? Or can he? Of course he can. The rest would need us to come to Christ in prayers and meditation of scriptures as we pray for our loved ones to come back to the Father in heaven. Or some who never have personally accepted Christ, to put their faith in Christ.

The Prodigal Son returned after he hit the bottom of life

I think this is what the final turn to bring many back to God. He hit the bottom of most bottom when he was famished, with no money working a for a pigs’ farm. He was so hungry that he was about to eat pig’s food, and he was awakened at that point why would he be doing this when he remembered his father’s house, the maids have plenty to eat. He woke up and decided to return to his father at that point. He decided that he is no more worth to be a son, but rather he’s going back to his father as. Servant. But his father came huggin him!

Luke 15:20–24 (ESV)

²⁰ And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ ²² But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. ²³ And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. ²⁴ For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.

His father saw him from a long way off, saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. That love and compassion of the father is intrinsically put there by God’s grace. That love and compassion over turned the anger and disappointment  he should have towards the son.

God would use the darkest moments, to cause a person to reach that total emptiness, to wake him up and return to him. That’s what happened to me in college first year, when I was backsliding from God until I failed a paper in the university that shook my life and sought the real meaning of life. Providentially at that time an evangelist came to our hall of residence in Leicester and I heard the message of dry bones came alive, and I totally felt like dry bones. I came back to God with tears in my eyes. A great revival started, I was never the same anymore. I joined evangelism teams for 3 summers and preached the gospel over London.

God will bring them back to Zion. That’s where they belong. Where we belong. Amen.

信仰与工作课的文化使命对我来说非常神奇和新鲜。那么什么是文化使命？它出现在创世记 1:27-28 (ESV)

27 于是神照着自己的形象造人，照着上帝的形象造人；他创造了男性和女性。 28 神祝福他们。神对他们说：“要生养众多，遍满大地，治理大地，管理海里的鱼，天上的鸟，和地上一切活动的生物。”

神吩咐亚当和夏娃去，生养众多，遍满大地，治理大地，管理海里的鱼和飞鸟……以及地上一切活动的东西。现在我们需要抓住本质上的两个重要词是：

“制服它！并拥有统治权”

文化使命由此而来，是一个大胆的举动，叫做征服世界，统治世界。这是一个如此大胆的举动，只有上帝才能称之为。因为害怕报复而说这些话甚至在政治上都不正确。然而事实是，上帝想要让一切都变得新的。作为文化使命，这是对它的统治的一部分。

你看大多数基督徒认为我们真的只是放大了大使命。马太福音 28 马太福音 28:18-20 (ESV)

18 耶稣进前来对他们说：“天上地下所有的权柄都赐给我了。 19 所以你们要去，使万民作我的门徒，奉父子圣灵的名给他们施洗， 20 教导他们遵守我所吩咐你们的一切。看哪，我一直与你同在，直到时代结束。”

所以这绝对是第一！但问题是：大使命是否包括文化更新？包括让一切都焕然一新？包括恢复上帝的形象？因为在伊甸园中，在堕落之前，上帝要求人类耕种园子，一切都井井有条。请记住，在以赛亚书中，甚至狮子和绵羊都躺在一起等，这是完美和谐的隐喻画面。那么基督的救赎包括整个受造之物的救赎吗？

20 因为受造物受制于徒劳，不是自愿的，而是因为受制于它的人，希望 21 受造物本身摆脱腐败的束缚，获得上帝儿女荣耀的自由。 22 因为我们知道，直到现在，整个受造之物一直在分娩的痛苦中一起呻吟。 23不仅受造物，而且我们自己拥有圣灵初熟的果子，在我们热切地等待被收为儿子的时候，我们自己也在内心呻吟，等待我们的身体得到救赎。

这就是为什么罗马书 8 章说创造是徒劳的。如何？由谁？老天为证！因为亚当得罪了上帝，作为所有受造物的代表联邦元首，整个受造物，包括树木、草、海洋、山脉、我们的办公室人员、我们的政府、学校、大学等，都与亚当一起堕落。因此，罗马书八章说，受造之物是盼望摆脱败坏的束缚，获得神儿女荣耀的自由。你看第 22 节说整个受造物一直在呻吟直到现在！！哇，整个世界都在呻吟，不仅仅是人类。人缘好，生活好，不知道自己内心在呻吟，直到遇到生活中的一些问题。但现实是整个世界都在呻吟。

呻吟！我们自己是圣灵的第一个果子，当我们热切地等待被接纳为上帝的儿子，我们的身体得到救赎时，我们自己也在内心叹息。我们的身体虚弱，有的生病，有的虚弱，随着年龄的增长，我们面临的问题也越来越多。

所有这些都表明我们的身体在呻吟，整个受造物也在呻吟。不仅我们的身体在呻吟，整个宇宙，我们生活的社会，城市，文明都在呻吟，因为我们只需要阅读新闻，它们每天都在发生，我们社会的破碎。

因此，上帝在基督里的救赎，不仅包括灵魂的属灵救赎，也就是对那些相信基督的人的救赎和拯救。这意味着，当基督再来时，它不仅仅是救恩，而且还使全世界所有受造物从束缚中解放出来。

但是现在，我们在基督耶稣里对世界的事工，必须是所有创造物的更新，这意味着我们的工作、办公室、每一个假期，比如卫生工作者、牙医、医生、会计师、教师、工程师、律师等等。 ……虽然他们不直接从事救赎灵魂的事工，但在他们的生活中、工作中、森林中，以及神原初的形像中，也有神形像的更新。因为在 Rev 21 中，它说上帝正在使一切都变得新！

启示录 21:3-5 3 我听见宝座上有响亮的声音说：“看哪，神的帐幕在百姓中间，祂要住在他们中间，他们要作祂的子民，而神要亲自作在他们中间， 4 他要擦去他们一切的眼泪；不再有死亡；不再有悲哀、哭泣、痛苦；第一件事已经过去了。” 5 坐宝座的说：“看哪，我将一切都更新了。”他说：“写下来，因为这些话是真实的。”

这对我们教会圣召的人意味着什么？他们需要带着这样认识神呼召万物更新的知识被派出去，做文化更新的工作，带着这份关心和爱，完成文化更新，恢复神的形像。世界上的人们可能会质疑是什么让我们的世界变得如此不同。

这真的是巴文克所说的，它是利用自然来实现超自然的变化。当我们进行文化更新，更新上帝的形象时，这都是大使命的一部分。

The cultural mandate from the Faith and Works class is pretty amazing and new to me. So what’s is the Cultural Mandate? It is found in Genesis 1:27–28 (ESV)

²⁷    So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. ²⁸ And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

God told Adam and Eve to go and be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds…and over everything that moves on the earth. Now the two big words here we need to capture in its essence are:

“Subdue it! And Have dominion over”

Cultural mandate from here is the bold move called subdue the world, and have dominion over it. That’s such a bold move and only God can call it. It won’t be even politically correct to say those words for fear of retaliation. However the fact of the matter is that God wants to make everything new. And that’s part of the dominion over it, as cultural mandate.

You see most Christians think we are really only zoomed in on the Great Commissioning. Matt 28 Matthew 28:18–20 (ESV)

¹⁸ And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. ¹⁹ Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

So this is absolutely number one! But the question is: does the Great commission include the cultural renewal? Includes the make everything new? Includes the restoring the image of God? Because in the Garden of Eden, before the fall, man was asked by God to till the garden, and everything was in perfect harmonious order. Remember in the book of Isaiah, even lions and sheep lie together etc., a metaphoric picture of the perfect harmony. Then the redemption of Christ includes the redemption of whole creation?

You see here that : Genesis 3:17 (NASB 2020). ¹⁷ Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; With hard labor you shall eat from it All the days of your life.

Creation has been cursed because the sin of Adam. Adam fell into the judgement of God, and the whole creation of the world did too. The whole ground has been cursed. Because it has been cursed.

Romans 8:20–23 (ESV)

²⁰ For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope ²¹ that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. ²² For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. ²³ And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

Now that’s why Romans 8 here says the creation is subjected to futility. How? By who? By God! Because Adam sinned against God, as the representative federal head of all creation, the entire creation meaning trees, grass, oceans, mountains, our office people, our governments, schools, universities etc. have all fallen together with Adam. Therefore, Rom 8 says the creation is hoping to be liberated firm its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. You see v 22 says the whole creation has been groaning until now!! Wow, the entire world has been groaning, not only humans. People living in good fortune and good life, don’t even know that they are groaning internally until they hit some problems in life. But the reality is the whole world is groaning.

Groaning! We ourselves, who are the first fruit of the Spirit, also groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons of God, the redemption of our bodies. Our bodies are weak, some are sick, some are weak, and as age, the more problems we face.

All these point to the fact that our bodies are groaning, the entire creation are also in groaning. And not only our bodies are groaning, the entire cosmos, the society we live in, the cities, the civilization are all groaning as we only need to read the news, they happen daily, the brokenness of our society.

Therefore the redemption of God in Christ, will have to include more than the spiritual redemption of souls, i.e. redemption and salvation for those who put their faith in Christ. That means, its more than salvation, but also liberation from the bondage for all creation throughout the world when Christ returns.

But right now, our ministry to the world in Christ Jesus, will have to be the renewal of all creation which means our jobs, offices, every vacation like sanitary workers, dentists, doctors, accountant, teachers, engineers, lawyers, etc. etc. Even though they are not directly in the ministry of redemption of souls, there is also the counterpart called renewal of the image of God in their lives, in the work, in the forests, and whatever to the original image of God. Because in Rev 21, it says that God is making everything new!

Revelation 21:3–5 ³ And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among the people, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, ⁴ and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” ⁵ And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”

What would that mean in our church vocation folks? They need to be sent out with such knowledge of God’s calling for renewal of all things, and do the work of cultural renewal, and with that care and love, and that’s fulfilling the cultural renewal, restoring to the image of God. People in the world may question what’s in us that is making such difference in the world.

It’s really what Bavinck says it’s the using the natural achieving the supernatural changes.  When we do the cultural renewal, renewal to the image of God, it’s all part of the Great Commission.

WOMAN(Heb. ʾiššâ, Gk. gynē). The common humanity and equal value of woman and man, created ‘in the image of God’, is a theme of Gn. 1:27. Complementarity and the incompleteness of each without the other is a theme of Gn. 2:20, where woman is created to be man’s helper or partner. (*Eve). Gn. 3:16 speaks of the pain of dependence and domination between women and men in a sinful world.

Monogamy was the OT ideal, but widespread polygamy was regulated rather than condemned in the Law. Parenthood was highly prized. Women in biblical narratives mainly operate within a household, naming the children and being responsible for their early education. Mothers were to be honoured (Ex. 20:12), feared (Lv. 19:3) and obeyed (Dt. 21:18ff). Men took responsibility for and protected women family members but, if there were no male heirs, a woman could independently inherit land (Nu. 27:1–8).

Woman: was “taken out of man” (Gen. 2:23), and therefore the man has the preeminence. “The head of the woman is the man;” but yet honour is to be shown to the wife, “as unto the weaker vessel” (1 Cor. 11:3, 8, 9; 1 Pet. 3:7). Several women are mentioned in Scripture as having been endowed with prophetic gifts, as Miriam (Ex. 15:20), Deborah (Judg. 4:4, 5), Huldah (2 Kings 22:14), Noadiah (Neh. 6:14), Anna (Luke 2:36, 37), and the daughters of Philip the evangelist (Acts 21:8, 9). Women are forbidden to teach publicly (1 Cor. 14:34, 35; 1 Tim. 2:11, 12). Among the Hebrews it devolved upon women to prepare the meals for the household (Gen. 18:6; 2 Sam. 13:8), to attend to the work of spinning (Ex. 35:26; Prov. 31:19), and making clothes (1 Sam. 2:19; Prov. 31:21), to bring water from the well (Gen. 24:15; 1 Sam. 9:11), and to care for the flocks (Gen. 29:6; Ex. 2:16).

The word “woman,” as used in Matt. 15:28, John 2:4 and 20:13, 15, implies tenderness and courtesy and not disrespect. Only where revelation is known has woman her due place of honour assigned to her.
