The glamor of the city is over with the Covid19 onslaught that dispersed many middle upper classes New Yorkers from NYC especially Manhattan. We used to have churches clamoring for midtown, etc., because Manhattan seems to be so hot with many young professionals, young families, dynamic, energetic, aspirating for career dream in this Big Apple. The density of population in New York is staggering. 27,000 people per square mile! Example: Over one-third of the population 25 and over in New York City has a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared to 30 percent nationally. The borough of Brooklyn on its own would be the 4th largest city in the United States; Queens would also rank 4th nationally.[1]
With that kind of density, in the rush hour of Manhattan, literally people are rushing almost shoulder to shoulder, and the subways can barely keep up with the amount of traffic. With the recent advent of Covid 19 pandemic hitting the world, with especially New York city among the hardest hit in the world, the scene got ugly and scary. Morgues with freezers were set up barely 6 months ago in certain parts of New York like Queens, because there is just not enough morgues. It gets to that stage, hospitals were running out of space or beds to treat patients, lack of doctors and nurses who were bravely tirelessly sacrificially in the front line fighting the disease and trying to save lives. It was a very tense moment that lasts for almost half a year when New York peaked with Covid 19 more than Wuhan of China, Italy, etc. It’s just astonishing and downright scary how all these happened to such a beloved city at such a quick pace.
Now almost all offices have been having their staff working remote from home to avoid transmission of viruses for over 6 months now and growing. With that many middle upper classes professional living in New York are moving out or moved out already of New York to suburbs to get away from this congested city with #1 spread of virus in the world. Many have moved to the Hudson, CT, Long Island and many are not returning to New York city anymore. First they really have a much bigger space and yard to breathe than being jammed into an apartment with many other residents sharing elevator daily, fighting traffic on the roads, and subway. Now they begin to experience a fresh breath of air they never had a chance to, and now saving tons of dollars. Why? Because houses out there are much cheaper than in Manhattan, Brooklyn, UWS etc. And on top of that, they don’t pay the city tax of New York, because they don’t work in the city anymore, but in the suburb. And the fact that they can work remote from their suburb, what’s the point of staying back in the expensive congested vulnerable to virus disease city?? NY Governor Cuomo said, “In the old days we used to talk about people leaving Manhattan if the situation got bad, if taxes went up, if quality of life deteriorated,” Cuomo said on a call with reporters Thursday. “They left. They left because of COVID.”[2]
Piled up on top of the problem is the problem of violence viz. gun shootings killings in New York city recently. With the racism uproar recently of George Floyd in Minneapolis, some protests of Black Lives Matter has turned violent and , without going into details, NYPD New York Police has been defunded with a billion dollars been shifted from their budget in other social welfare depts in the city. The Police depts need reformation, retraining to prevent police brutality especially towards the blacks on the streets, but not defunding. The respect for Police has hence dropped to an all-time low, and cops struggled to really combat violence, crimes, etc., because they struggled with all the above reasons. Recently there have been 40-50 gun shootings in New York city over every weekend, something never been heard before. NY Times reported, “The city surpassed 400 shootings in the first half of the year for the first time since 2016, with 528 by the end of last month; the 205 shootings in June were the highest for that month since 1996, the police said.”[3]
It’s really a no brainer. So, what does that mean to the churches in NYC? I used to hear how much churches wanted to jam into the midtown of Manhattan as it’s the central strategic spot with professional, hip millennials all jamming in there. It’s a glamor to have planted a church in midtown. And now looking back, people have left, and many are leaving, and not coming back for the foreseeable future now.
I am in favor of spreading out the population outside of the hotspot of a mega city to decrease the density of population, giving more space to all and families with small children, and give more space for all for a healthier less hectic lifestyle. When so many people crammed in one hot spot, it’s a fertile ground for any virus to spread, and in future, there may be more! So let’s plant churches outside of the ‘mega city’ to the suburbs and smaller towns and cities too. It will be healthier lifestyle to all.
City is not our goal, it’s a means
Remember city is not our goal, it’s a means. The gospel for the people and the Kingdom of God is the goal. As much as much urbanization has happened for the last few decades, round the world, the trend most likely will reverse to a sizable extent for a good reason, and the institution of the gospel must follow suit.
This will also resolve the tension of raising families with young kids in a congested metropolis city with high costs of living, with poor public schools, and very expensive private schools. When families with children moved to suburbs, or outskirts of the city, families can have affordable good schools, and solve a lot of the inner city problems too.
Gospel doesn’t have to stay in the city, let it grow to the suburbs, smaller towns and cities, the outskirts of the city and spread out the glory of God.
Habakkuk 2 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Paul’s Church Planting Pattern in the New testament
Paul was preaching the gospel from city to city. Paul preached to the city of Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch. NT pattern of church planting of Paul is from city to city, not exactly in one huge mega city. Acts 14:21-22 (ESV) 21 When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.
Paul and Timothy went through the cities, delivering the message of the gospel.
Acts 16:3-5 (ESV) 3 Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him….4 As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered to them for observance the decisions that had been reached by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem. 5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and they increased in numbers daily.
Paul wanted to bring Barnaba’s together to return and visit the churches in every city where they proclaimed the word of God. Note: It’s the word of God, not just the gospel.
Acts 15:36 (ESV) 36 And after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us return and visit the brothers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord and see how they are.”
The pattern of evangelicalism of church planting by Paul in the NT is clearly from city to city, as opposed to one mega city.
Kasih sayang ibu bapa terhadap anak-anak mereka hampir ‘tanpa syarat’ dalam arti apa sahaja yang dilakukan oleh anak-anak, sehingga mereka menolak ibu bapa mereka atau sebagainya. Sesuatu yang tidak pernah didengar di dunia, dan ia mesti berasal dari Tuhan. Hanya Tuhan semesta yang menciptakan semua makhluk hidup, yang mampu melakukannya.
Saya dan isteri dalam kumpulan perbincangan dan sokongan ibu bapa zoom semalam, seorang ibu berkongsi bagaimana dia berdoa selama 5 jam dalam 7 jam kerjanya semasa dia bekerja, semuanya untuk kedua-dua anaknya. Itu tidak berlaku dalam satu hari, tetapi secara umum, dan dia menangis ketika dia mencurahkan seberapa banyak dia telah berdoa agar anak-anaknya yang sesat kembali kepada Tuhan dan bertanya mengapa setelah bertahun-hari, berminggu-minggu, berbulan-bulan doa yang kuat , dia bahkan tidak melihat perubahan pada anak-anaknya. Dia mengatakan bahawa dia bergelut dengansendiri ketidakpercayaannya sekarang, kerana Tuhan sepertinya tidak mendengar sedikit pun, setelah berbulan-bulan menjalani solat! Saya tidak dapat menahan diri daripada tersedak sedikit, kerana saya merasakan kesakitannya. Kami semua mendoakan anak-anak kami dan beban bagi ibu bapa Kristian sangat berat ketika anak-anak itu pergi dari Tuhan.
Untuk anda semua dengan ibu, inilah masanya untuk memanggil ibu anda, menghormati dan menghormati ibu anda, demi Kristus. Saya yakin diri saya! Kedalaman memanggil ibu dan ayah untuk mengasihi anak-anak mereka, sama ada orang Kristian atau tidak, adalah Tuhan yang diberikan rahmat umum yang dibina sejak lahir secara universal. Tidak ada yang perlu memberitahu atau mengajar ibu untuk mengasihi anak-anaknya. Ini terutama ditunjukkan pada saat lembut ketika seorang ibu memegang bayinya dalam pelukan.
Dari sudut pandang akal, siapa yang akan mendaftar untuk bergabung dengan keahlian apabila anda memerlukan pertolongan di bidang yang anda daftarkan, anda tidak akan mendengar daripada penyedia selepas panggilan berulang kali, permintaan. Kemarahan mendidih. Ini membuat anda tertanya-tanya mengapa Tuhan kita kadang-kadang begitu diam dalam perkara-perkara yang sangat penting bagi kita dan selama berbulan-bulan atau bertahun-tahun menangis dalam solat? Saya rasa setiap orang Kristian perlu mengenal Tuhan yang kita sembah dalam kesucian, keadilan, kasih yang teguh.
Tetapi bagaimana Tuhan tidak mendengar? Dalam Mazmur, ada banyak kasus ketika Daud atau pemazmur menangis, “Ya Tuhan, mengapa kamu jauh dari saya?” Tetapi kesudahannya selalu memuji kasih dan kesetiaan Tuhan yang teguh. Inilah Daud yang berseru kepada Tuhan dan bertanya kepada Gid mengapa dia meninggalkannya. Tidak masalah untuk bertanya kepada Tuhan dengan sikap kagum dan hormat seperti Daud. Dia bertanya kepada Tuhan, menangis mengapa dia tidak mendengar doanya. Itulah perkara yang kadang-kadang kita alami. Tetapi Daud selalu penuh kasih sayang kepada Tuhan, dengan penuh semangat menyembah Tuhan dengan sepenuh hati, tidak kira apa yang dia hadapi. Sebenarnya, Tuhan membebaskannya setiap masa. Padahal ada kalanya, ketika dia ditengking karena alasan Tuhan.
Dia memanggil Tuhan sebagai “tetapi kamu tidak menjawab” 2 “Ya Tuhanku, aku berseru setiap hari, tetapi kamu tidak menjawab,” Lebih baik berbicara terus dengan hati kamu dengan Tuhan, alih-alih menyembunyikannya, dan mungkin hanya membuahkan hasil tidak percaya, dan mundur dalam kepahitan. Lebih baik membicarakannya dengan Tuhan, sama seperti anda melakukannya dengan isteri / suami anda, apabila perkara-perkara yang membuat anda marah. Sentiasa berbincang dengan baik. Tetapi dengan Tuhan, itu berbeza, kerana dia bukan manusia, yang anda bicarakan dan dia bertindak balas. Dia adalah Roh, dan Tuhan Yesus adalah orang tengah kita, Tuhan, gembala. Tetapi kita dapat belajar dari David. Bercakap dengan Tuhan dan curahkan hatimu kepadanya. Y9u akan merasa lebih baik selepas itu, kerana anda tahu dia telah mendengar anda. Itu sangat penting bagi anda, kewarasan anda, dan Tuhan menghendaki hati kita, dan Dia akan mengambil hati.

Kesaksian hidup adalah salah satu perkara menggalakkan yang paling kuat yang kita ada. Ketika Israel menyeberangi Laut Merah, Tuhan meminta Joshua untuk mengambil batu untuk peringatan, yang mungkin tidak dilupakan oleh nenek moyang mereka. Perbuatan Tuhan yang luar biasa perlu ada di dalam fikiran kita, setiap saat, terutama pada saat-saat putus asa, berjalan tanpa jawapan. Kesaksian lebih kuat daripada teologi pada masa-masa tertentu. Kita memerlukan kedua-duanya, kerana kesaksian adalah teologi dalam kehidupan.

Itu membawa kita kembali ke saat penciptaan kehidupan. Tuhan merancang kita untuk menjadi seperti itu. Sama ada seseorang yang dewasa untuk menerima Tuhan atau menolak Tuhan, elemen itu mesti ada pada setiap manusia. Tetapi kerosakan dan kerosakan moral di dunia ini yang merompak orang itu, jika mereka menolak Tuhan di kemudian hari.
Pada masa-masa sukar, kita mesti kembali ke permulaan kita dengan Tuhan. Dari rahim ibu kita, Yesus telah menjadi Tuhan kita. 4.Terus berseru kepada Tuhan
Tetapi kamu, Tuhan, jangan jauh dari aku.
Anda adalah kekuatan saya; datang dengan cepat untuk menolong saya.
20 Lepaskan aku dari pedang,
nyawaku yang berharga dari kekuatan anjing.
21 Lepaskan aku dari mulut singa;
selamatkan aku dari tanduk lembu liar.
Setelah semua keluhan Daud dalam mazmur ini, dan kemudian mengakui kebesaran Tuhan, dia kembali kepada tangisan aslinya untuk meminta pertolongan. Tidak semua yang dijawab oleh Tuhan, yang besar dan yang benar, yang Tuhan lakukan. Dia berseru kepada Tuhan untuk membebaskannya. Saya rasa semua ibu, ayah dan anak-anak sesat dapat dan terus berseru kepada Tuhan, dan Tuhan pada masanya akan menjawab. Kita tidak boleh memerintahkannya, tetapi kita boleh memintanya.

Sebenarnya ini adalah mazmur kenabian untuk Yesus sebagai Mesias kita sebagai Putra Tuhan yang dijelmakan ke dalam dunia ini, untuk menanggung dosa dunia, dan akhirnya disalibkan, ditolak oleh Allah Bapa ketika Yesus berseru “Ya Tuhanku, Tuhanku, mengapa engkau meninggalkan saya? ” Ini adalah kesaksian yang kuat tentang penderitaannya dan akhirnya muncul untuk sesuatu yang indah dan indah yang mengubah dunia selamanya, mengubah nasib kita selamanya. Bolehkah anda bayangkan jika dia tidak menderita? Kita semua akan ditakdirkan untuk membakar neraka selama-lamanya.
Yesus tidak dijawab oleh Bapanya dengan alasan yang baik. Tetapi ada kalanya dalam sejarah Tuhan menolak Putra-Nya, banyak rasul dipenggal, mati syahid, dan nenek moyang besar seperti Justin Myrtle, semuanya mati syahid demi kemuliaan Tuhan.
Dengan perspektif ini, mari kita mempercayai kebaikan Tuhan, kedaulatannya, dan Tuhan itu baik.
The love of parents for their children is nearing ‘unconditional’ in a sense of whatever kids do, until they deny their parents or so. Something that’s unheard of in the world, and it has to be from God. Only the God of the universe who created all living beings, is capable of that.
My wife and I were in a zoom discussion group yesterday, one mother shared how she prayed for 5 hours in her 7 hours work while she’s working, all for her two boys. That’s doesn’t happen in one day, but generally regular, and she cried as she poured out how much she had prayed for her gone astray sons to come back to the Lord and questioned why after so many days, weeks, months of intense prayer, she doesn’t even see an inkling of change in her sons. She said she struggled with her own disbelief now, as the Lord doesn’t seem to hear at all even a little bit, after all these months of travailing prayers! I couldn’t help being choked up a little, as I felt her pain. We were all praying for our children and the burden upon the Christian parents is particularly heavy when the children had gone off from the Lord.
For you all with mothers, it’s time to call your mum, respect and honor you mum, for Christ sake. I am convicted myself! The depth of calling for mum and dad to love their kids, whether Christians or not, is a God given common grace inbuilt from the time of birth universally. No one needs to tell or teach a mum to love her kids. This is especially showing during the tender moment when a mother holds her baby in her arms.
From a commonsense point of view, who would have signed up to join a membership when you needed help in the field you signed up for, you don’t hear from the provider after repeated calls, requests. Anger boils. It does make you wonder why our God is sometimes so silent in things that matter so much to us and over months or even years of crying out in prayers? I think every Christian needs to know the God whom we worship in his holiness, justice, steadfast love.
But how does God not hear? In Psalms, there are plenty of cases when David or psalmist cried, “O God, why are you far from me?” But the ending is always praises of God’s steadfast love, and faithfulness. Psalms 22:1-5
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? 2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest.
3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises.
1. Perfectly acceptable to cry out to God and question him with reverence in trying times
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? 2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest.
This is David crying out to God asking and questioning God why he has forsaken him. It’s okay to question God in an attitude of awe and reverence like David. He questioned God, crying why he hasn’t heard his prayers. That’s the kind of thing we experience sometimes. But David is always affectionate towards God, passionately worshipping God with all his heart, no matter what he faced. In fact, God delivered him at all times. Though there were times, when he was snubbed for God’s reasons.
He called God as “but you do not answer” 2 “My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,” It’s better to have straight talk from your heart with God, instead of hushing it, and may just results in disbelief, and backslide in bitterness. It’s so much better to talk it over with God, just like you do it with your wife/husband, when things makes you mad. Always have a good talk. But with God, it’s different, because he is not a human, that you talk to and he responds. He is Spirit, and the Lord Jesus is our mediator, God, shepherd. But we can learn from David. Talking to God and pour out your heart to him. You will feel better after that, because you know he has heard you. That’s really important for you, your sanity, and the Lord wants our hearts, and he will take heart.
2. God is still enthroned that our fore-fathers put their trust in him in their hard times
Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises.[c] 4 In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. 5 To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.
Life testimony is one of the most powerful encouraging things we have. When Israel crossed the Jordan River, God asked Joshua to pick up stones for memorial, that their descendants may not forget. The great acts of God need to be in our minds, at all times, especially in times of discouragement, travailing with no seeming answers. Testimonies is more powerful that theology at certain times. We need both, because testimonies is theology in life.
David’s genius is he is so good at shifting from the poor me, grumbling me, look at me, kind of mindset, to the awesomeness of God, the greatness of God immediately. He recounted the great things God has done before, what happened to his forefathers, as they trusted in God and God saved them, and were not put to shame. Those are precious moments that’s so important, from looking at ‘me’, to looking at God’s greatness and power and strength. In fact, that pretty much sums up psalms.
3. Remember that God made me to trust in him even at my mother’s breasts
God made you trust But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people. 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads. 8 “He trusts in the Lord,” they say, “let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”
9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast. 10 From birth I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
That brings us back to the moment of creation of life. God designs us to be that way. Whether a person grown up to accept God or reject God, that element must be true in every human being. But it’s the corruption and the moral decay in this world that robs people of that, if they reject God later on.
In hard times, we must go back to our beginning with God. From our mother’s wombs, Jesus has been our God. That’s never changed, and never will, no matter what we go through. We must enthrone God higher than our kids well-being or even our own well-being. God is bigger than families. He is bigger than our own very souls. Nothing in the world that we can hang onto, not even our spouses, but only our Lord Jesus Christ. That realization must transcend our hardship.
4.Continue to cry out to God
But you, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me. 20 Deliver me from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs. 21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen.
After all the complaining’s by David in this psalm, and then acknowledged the greatness of God, he returned to his original cry for help. Granted not everything was answered by God, the big ones and the righteous ones, God did. He cried out to God to deliver him. I think all mothers, fathers with children astray can and continue to cry out to God, and God in his own timing will answer. We can’t dictate him, but we can petition him.
5. We should continue to proclaim God’s name and revere him as he has dominions over all regardless of our prayers
I will declare your name to my people; in the assembly I will praise you. 23 You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel! 24 For he has not despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.
25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you[f] I will fulfill my vows. 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise him— may your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, 28 for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him— those who cannot keep themselves alive. 30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. 31 They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn: He has done it!
In fact this is a prophetic psalm for Jesus as our Messiah as the Son of God incarnated into this world, to bear the sins of the world, and finally crucified, rejected by God the Father as Jesus cried out “My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?” This is a powerful testimony of his suffering and eventual turning up for something beautiful and wonderful that changed the world forever, changed our destiny forever. Can you imagine if he didn’t suffer? We will all be doomed to burning hell for eternity.
Jesus was not answered by his Father for good reasons. I know all parents prayers and petitions to God for their strayed kids, in all perspectives, are right in the sight of God, and therefore be answered. But there are times in history God rejected his Son, many apostles were beheaded, martyred, and great forefathers like Justin Myrtle, were all martyred for the glory of God.
With this perspective, lets believe in the bigness of God, his sovereignty, and God is good.

Pada zaman dan zaman kita, dosa hampir automatik dan dengan banjir media sosial yang membanjiri dunia, masyarakat, dan pandangan dunia tentang kepuasan diri dan tindakan liberal sebagai kepentingan utama, sukar untuk mencari beberapa orang kudus di bumi yang tidak tergerak oleh gewang godaan di sekeliling. Bahkan para teolog dan sarjana Alkitab tidak dikecualikan, dan juga rentan, jika mereka tidak mengikuti disiplin tubuh yang ketat dengan kekuatan Roh Kudus dalam tulisan suci. Bukan hanya banjir bahan, filem, dan kemudahan menjadikannya contoh pornografi. Kehancurannya sangat menyakitkan hati, tetapi kita dapat dengan tenang melihat bahawa Tuhan kita telah membuat rezeki dan ketentuan untuk kita melarikan diri dari mereka. 1 Korintus 10:13 (ESV) 13 Tidak ada godaan yang menimpa kamu yang tidak biasa bagi manusia. Tuhan itu setia, dan dia tidak akan membiarkan kamu tergoda melebihi kemampuanmu, tetapi dengan godaan itu dia juga akan memberikan jalan keluar, agar kamu dapat menanggungnya.
Ketegangan ada di dalam hati kita. Firman Tuhan yang ditanam dalam diri kita, dan nafsu dan dosa yang masih ada di dalam diri kita. Jangan tertipu, dilahirkan kembali orang-orang Kristian belum tersingkir dari nafsu dan daging dalaman, masih ada sehingga kita mati, dan bertemu dengan Kristus.
Jadi bagaimana kita melakukannya? John Owens menulis buku terkenal “Mortification of the Dins”, dan saya akan menarik beberapa idea dari sana. Mortify: untuk menundukkan / mengatasi (tubuh, nafsu, dll) dengan pantang, disiplin pertapa, atau penderitaan yang ditimbulkan sendiri.
1.Nasihat itu ditujukan kepada orang-orang yang beriman [1]
Nasihat itu adalah untuk orang Kristian. Oleh itu sekarang tidak ada penghukuman bagi mereka yang berada dalam Kristus Yesus. Ini ditujukan kepada orang-orang yang beriman. Dan kemudian dalam v9 Anda, bagaimanapun, bukan dalam daging tetapi dalam Roh, jika sebenarnya Roh Tuhan tinggal di dalam anda.
Persoalannya adalah berada dalam Roh, dan bukan dalam daging. Ketegangan adalah kita hidup dalam tubuh fizikal, yang merupakan daging, tetapi kita harus berada dalam Roh.
2.Keadaan itu menyatakan kepastian hubungan[2]

Pengambilan yang menarik. Terdapat kaitan yang jelas antara penyucian perbuatan jasad dan hidup. [3] Ini bukan sebab dan akibat legalistik yang mengatakan, “Jika oleh Roh dibunuh …, kamu akan hidup”, kerana tindakan kita tidak akan menyelamatkan kita. Bahagian keselamatan itu sudah dicapai oleh Kristus, dan dia sendiri, di kayu salib dan kebangkitannya dan menaklukkan kematian! Itu diselesaikan, dan petikan ini adalah Paul menegur orang Kristian untuk meneruskan apa yang telah dicapai oleh Kristus sendiri. Ini adalah siri kesinambungan. 3.Kekuatan kita dalam tugas ini datang melalui Roh [6]
Semua cara lain untuk mati akan gagal. Lelaki boleh mencuba, menggunakan kuasa kehendak, menggunakan disiplin, menggunakan pertanggungjawaban kumpulan lelaki, dan bahkan membaca Alkitab, tetapi mereka akan menjadi pendek. Itu adalah karya Roh Kudus, dan hanya dengan Dia sahaja kita dapat mengalami kemenangan.[7]
Owns menulis, “Penyucian dari kekuatan diri, dilakukan dengan cara penemuan diri, hingga akhir kebenaran diri, adalah jiwa dan hakikat semua agama palsu di dunia”. [8]
Itu dikatakan dengan baik dan ini mendefinisikan semua agama di dunia selain daripada agama Kristian. Itu membezakan agama Kristian. Ini bukan sesuatu yang dapat anda lakukan sendiri dengan kekuatan kemenangan anda, tetapi sesuatu yang hanya dapat dicapai oleh orangketiga Ketuhanan Ketuhanan, Roh Kudus. Inilah Injil Yesus Kristus.
4.Tugas itu sendiri [9]

i.“Tubuh” di sini sama dengan “daging”, dosa yang kekal, daging atau nafsu yang rosak, yang dimaksudkan. [10]
Mereka adalah perbuatan dosa kerana pada suatu ketika kita telah menyerah kepada nafsu batin. Owen menyebutnya sebagai, “Perbuatan adalah ekspresi penyerahan kepada nafsu batin. Nafsu dan dosa yang tinggal adalah sumber dan asas dari semua tindakan berdosa. ” [11] Itu penyataan yang sangat penting di sini. Perbuatan dosa kita di luar adalah hasil dari kita berserah pada tekanan yang berterusan dan mendorong keinginan dan keinginan batin menuju dosa, nafsu. Kata kunci di sini adalah ‘hasil’. Ini tidak terjadi pada suatu contoh, ini seperti tarikan dan perang, menarik dan menarik lawan, itu sebabnya saya menyebutnya sebagai ketegangan antara dosa dan kebenaran dalam diri saya yang dikuasai oleh Roh. Membunuh seorang lelaki atau orang yang hidup kurus adalah dengan menghilangkan prinsip semua kekuatan, semangat, dan kekuatannya, sehingga ia tidak dapat bertindak, atau melakukan, atau melakukan tindakan yang sewajarnya. [14]
Perlakukan dosa sebagai musuh yang ingin anda bunuh. Sekiranya nafsu tersembunyi berfungsi di dalam diri anda, anda harus kejam dalam menghilangkan kekuatan, semangat dan kekuatannya. Ini adalah sasaran yang sangat jelas, dan untuk memahami bahawa kita perlu menghancurkan atau menghilangkan kekuatan, semangat dan kekuatannya, pemikiran kita berubah dengan segera. 5.Janji itu Kehidupan

Bukan hanya kehidupan kekal di masa depan, tetapi juga kehidupan rohani di dalam Kristus yang kita miliki di bumi, kegembiraan dan penghiburan dan semangat hidup kita di dunia ini. Kita akan bersukacita lebih, lebih damai, lebih gembira jika kita membunuh perbuatan daging.
Motif kedua untuk tugas ini adalah: semangat, kekuatan, dan keselesaan hidup rohani kita bergantung pada penghapusan perbuatan daging! Jangan fikir hanya untuk syurga, kubu di sini sekarang di bumi! Ini akan membuat perbezaan SEKARANG di bumi kerana kita akan mempunyai lebih banyak semangat, kekuatan dan keselesaan dalam kehidupan rohani kita!

In this sensual world we live in today, and with the deluge of social media that’s flooding our world, society, and the worldview of liberal self-satisfaction and actuation as the prime importance, it will be hard to find some saints around on earth that’s unmoved by the lures of the temptations all around. Even the theologians and scholars of the Bible are not exempted, and are as vulnerable, if they don’t follow the strict discipline of the body by the strength of the Holy Spirit in the scripture. Not only the deluge of material, movies, and the ease of getting them example pornography. The destruction of it is heart breaking, but we can take comfort to see that our God has already made providence and provisions for us to escape them. 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
The tension is within our hearts. The word of God that’s been planted within us, and the lust and sin that’s still dwelling within us. Don’t be fooled, born again Christians have not been plugged out from the internal lust and flesh, it’s still there until we die, and meet Christ.
So how do we do it? John Owens wrote the famous book “The Mortification of Sin”, and I will draw some ideas from there. Mortify: to subjugate/overcome (the body, passions, etc.) by abstinence, ascetic discipline, or self-inflicted suffering.
The exhortation is for Christians. v1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. This is directed towards believers. And then in v9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you.
The question is to be in the Spirit, and not in the flesh. The tension is we live in the physical body, which is the flesh, but we are to be in the Spirit.
2. The condition expresses the certainty of the relationship[2]
Romans 8:13 (ESV) 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
An interesting take. There is a clear connection between the mortifying of the deeds of the body and living. [3] This is not a legalistic cause and effect saying , “If by the Spirit put to death…, you will live”, because our action won’t save us. That salvation part of it is already accomplished by Christ, and him alone, on the cross and his resurrection and conquered death! That’s settled, and this passage is Paul exhorting Christians to continue what has been accomplished by Christ himself. It’s a continuation series. John Owens calls it as “means and end.” He says, ‘There is a certain infallible connection and coherence between true mortification and eternal life”: if you use this means, you shall obtain that end; if you do mortify, you shall live”.[4] This then is our main motive for the enforcement of this duty in our lives. [5] Very well put by Owens. This should be indeed our main motivation to put to death the sins in our lives. We got to do something about it. You see, if we are not conscious of it, we will let it slip, and it will catch up with us. We think a little sinning, a little slipping is fine kind of thing. But it grows! Before we know it, it has grown to such size, magnitude, it will topple our character, destroy us. Also we will run out of peace and joy, if sin continues tom plague us. On the outside, we smile, and can be even polished, but inside we will run dry and lack of joy and peace. Galatians 5:9 (ESV) 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
3.Our strength in this duty comes through the Spirit [6]
All other ways of mortification will fail. Men may try, using will power, using discipline, using accountability of men’s group, and even reading the Bible, but they will come short. It is a work of the Holy Spirit, and it is by Him alone we are to experience victory.[7]
Owns writes, “Mortification from a self-strength, carried on by ways of self-invention, to the end of a self-righteousness, is the soul and substance of all false religion in the world”. [8]
That is so well said and it defines all religions in the world apart from Christianity. That sets Christianity apart. It’s not something you can self-carry out by your won strength, but it’s something that can only be accomplished by the 3rd person of the Trinity Godhead, the Holy Spirit. This is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

i. “The body” here is the same as the “flesh”, the indwelling sin, the corrupted flesh or lust, that is intended. [10]
They are inly deeds of sins because at some point we have yielded to an inward lust. Owen calls it as , “Deed is an expression of a yielding to an inward lust. Indwelling lust and sin is the fountain and principle of all sinful action.” [11] That’s a very important statement here. Our outward act of sin is a result of our yielding to the constant pressure and pushing inner urge and desire towards sin, lust. The key word here is ‘yield’. This doesn’t happen on an instance, this is like a tug and war, pulling and pulling in opposition, that’s why I call it as a tension between the sinful and the righteousness in me powered by the Spirit. Isn’t that’s what’s called so crisply by Paul in: Romans 7:14-17 [12]
ii. To ‘mortify’ means to put any living thing to death.[13]
To kill a man or any living thin is to take away the principle of all of its strength, vigor, and power, so that it cannot act, or exert, or put forth any proper acting’s of its own. [14]
Treat sin as an enemy that you want to kill. If the hidden lust is at work in you, you will have to be ruthless in take away its strength, vigor and power. This is a very clear target, and to understand we need to sap or take away its strength, vigor and power, our mindset changes straight away. We will stop entertaining it, for example. We will stop thinking over it and letting it grow in our minds. To mortify sins, it will take a determination and our crying to God to help you at that point. The Spirit will come and minster. Remember how Jesus struggled with the temptations of evading the death on the cross in the garden of Gethsemane to the point of sweating droplets of blood, and at that moment, the angels came and ministered to him. That’s why Jesus understands exactly and even more than what and how we suffered under temptations.
Indwelling sin is compared to a person, a living person, called the ‘old man’, with his faculties, and properties, his wisdom, craft, subtlety, and strength. The ‘old man’ is utterly mortified and slain by the cross of Christ. He is crucified with Christ (Rom 6:6), and we are ‘dead’ with him, v8. This takes place in regeneration (salvation). The Holy Spirit who lives in us, opposes the lusts of the flesh (Gal 5:17).
This is a constant duty of believers to render a death blow to the deeds of the flesh, that they may not have life and strength to bring forth their destructive influence. [15]
5. The Promise is Life
The promise is eternal life. It is not only eternal life in the future, but also the spiritual life in Christ which we have here on earth, the joy and comfort and vigor of our life in this world. We will rejoice more, more peaceful, more joyful if we put to death the deeds of the flesh.
The second motive for the duty is: the vigor, power, and comfort of our spiritual life depend on the mortification of the deeds of the flesh! Don’t think it’s only for heaven, its fort here now on earth! It will make a difference NOW on earth as we will have more vigor, power and comfort in our spiritual life!

Atas nama keadilan sosial dan memperlakukan semua orang secara adil kerana semuanya adalah imago dei (gambar Tuhan), para evangelis reformasi telah banyak mengkritik presiden. Dalam arti tertentu, dia perlu ditegur, tetapi sepertinya ada keheningan yang menakutkan dalam isu imago dei seperti membunuh nyawa yang belum lahir, memanggil kekejian sebagai cara untuk pergi dalam masyarakat dan memanggil seorang lelaki sebagai wanita di seberang parti politik. Sebagai contoh, artikel ini baru saja diterbitkan dalam Gabungan Injil, seperti kebanyakan yang lain pada dasarnya berpihak kepada satu pihak yang cenderung menekankan perkauman untuk orang kulit putih dan kurangnya rasa empati terhadap pendatang tanpa izin dan sejenisnya.
Sepanjang hidup saya, saya tidak dapat mengetahui mengapa 3 perkara mulia dari kain sosial mana-mana masyarakat untuk menjadi saleh tidak pernah dibangkitkan oleh mereka! Apakah tiga perkara penting?
Saya ingin mengemukakan perisytiharan ini yang merangkumi permasalahan utama yang perlu kita laksanakan dan bertanya kepada diri sendiri sebelum kita menjelang Pilihan Raya Presiden Nov 2020 ini.
Saya baru sahaja menandatangani Deklarasi Manhattan di antara 550,000 orang Kristian yang menandatangani termasuk banyak pemimpin evangelis Timothy KellerLigon Duncan dll Sekiranya anda belum menandatangani, tiada alasan untuk tidak menandatangani. Ini harus ditimbang dengan hati-hati dalam Pilihan Raya 2020, dan tidak hanya pada imago dei pada warna kulit, tetapi juga imago dei pada:
Kesucian hidup berkaitan dengan bayi yang belum lahir adalah kehidupan manusia yang perlu dihormati dan dihormati, siapa pun yang meragukan bahawa hanya dapat melihat banyak video yang menunjukkan bayi yang belum lahir, atau janin, bergerak di rahim ibu mereka. Oleh itu, bagaimana ada orang Kristian yang dapat menyentuh hati mereka dengan jujur dan mengesahkan calon yang melakukannya? Adakah nilai moral sama sekali? Malah orang bukan Kristian, kebanyakan mereka, akan mengatakan bahawa itu tidak bermoral! Saya rasa orang Islam, Yahudi, Buddha pasti akan menyokong pro-kehidupan, apalagi orang Kristian! Gereja Katolik bersuara menentang pengguguran, tetapi lihat lagi, kebanyakan calon termasuk calon Presiden November 2020 ini semuanya Katolik dan semua mendorong pengguguran, memanggil pro-pilihan, menghormati wanita. Tidak ada yang dapat mengalahkan kecerdasan kata pilihan untuk membenarkan tindakan mereka seperti di Amerika, secara serius, seseorang dapat menilai semula pembunuhan bayi untuk menghormati pilihan wanita dan melindungi kesihatan wanita.
Martabat Perkahwinan
Perkahwinan adalah penyatuan satu lelaki dan satu wanita. Perkahwinan adalah institusi pertama masyarakat manusia – sesungguhnya ia adalah institusi di mana semua institusi manusia lain mempunyai asasnya.[1]
Kejadian 2:18 (ESV) 18 Kemudian TUHAN Allah berfirman, “Tidak baik lelaki itu sendirian; Saya akan menjadikannya penolong yang sesuai untuknya. “
Semuanya bermula dengan Tuhan memperhatikan bahawa tidak baik lelaki itu bersendirian. Dan Tuhan memutuskan bahawa dia akan menjadikan Tuhan penolong yang sesuai untuknya. Anda melihat bahawa Tuhan memperhatikannya dan mengatakan bahawa. Tuhan mengatakan tidak baik bagi Adam untuk bersendirian, jadi Dia membuat seorang wanita keluar dari tulang rusuk Adam, dan menghembuskan nafasnya, untuk memberikan hidupnya. Dan Tuhan menyerahkan Hawa kepada Adam untuk menjadi isterinya, penolongnya. Begitulah institusi perkahwinan diperkenalkan dari sejarah, sebagai pasangan pertama. Penyatuan lelaki dengan wanita, begitulah Tuhan memulakan dan menciptakan lelaki dan wanita untuk tujuan itu. Jadi untuk mengubah definisi itu bertentangan dengan tujuan Tuhan. Jadi perkahwinan sebagai Tuhan yang dilaksanakan adalah antara lelaki dan wanita.
Lelaki itu berkata, “Sekarang ini adalah tulang tulangku dan daging dagingku; dia akan disebut wanita, kerana dia dikeluarkan dari lelaki.” Atas sebab ini seorang lelaki akan meninggalkan ayah dan ibunya dan bersatu dengan isterinya, dan mereka akan menjadi satu. Kejadian 2: 23-24

Kebebasan Beragama

Perjuangan untuk kebebasan beragama selama berabad-abad telah lama dan sukar. Kebebasan beragama bukanlah idea baru atau perkembangan baru-baru ini, tetapi didasarkan pada watak Tuhan sendiri, Tuhan yang paling terkenal dalam kehidupan dan pekerjaan Yesus Kristus. Bertekad untuk mengikuti Yesus dengan setia dalam hidup dan mati, orang-orang Kristen awal mengimbau cara di mana Penjelmaan telah terjadi: “Apakah Tuhan mengutus Kristus, seperti yang disangka oleh beberapa orang, sebagai ketakutan dan keganasan yang menzalimi? Tidak demikian, tetapi dengan lemah lembut dan kelembutan …, kerana paksaan bukanlah sifat Tuhan “(Surat kepada Diognetus 7.3-4). Oleh itu, hak kebebasan beragama mempunyai landasannya dalam teladan Kristus sendiri dan pada martabat manusia yang diciptakan menurut gambar Tuhan – suatu martabat, seperti yang dinyatakan oleh pengasas kita, wujud dalam setiap manusia, dan dapat diketahui oleh semua orang di pelaksanaan akal yang betul.[2]
Kembali ke masa-masa awal gereja, orang Kristian telah menolak untuk berkompromi dengan pemberitaan Injil mereka. Dalam Kisah 4, Petrus dan Yohanes diperintahkan untuk berhenti berkhotbah. Jawapan mereka adalah, “Tentukan sendiri apakah benar di sisi Tuhan untuk mentaati kamu dan bukannya Tuhan. Kerana kita tidak dapat menolong berbicara tentang apa yang telah kita lihat dan dengar.” Selama berabad-abad, agama Kristian telah mengajarkan bahawa ketidaktaatan sipil tidak hanya dibenarkan, tetapi kadang-kadang diperlukan. In the name of social justice and equitably treating all people as all are imago dei (image of God), the reformed evangelicals have largely criticized the president. Sanctity of Life
Sanctity of life deals with the unborn babies are human life that need to be honored and respected, anyone doubting that can just take a look at the many videos showing the unborn babies, or fetus, moving in their mums’’ wombs. Any abortion, some are even stretched and pushed to be legalized by some party to be as late as 9 weeks abortion! That’s inhuman, when you read stories of the shrieking sound, as these fetuses are killed and dumped. Enough horror stories. No, the Planned Family even collects these parts and sell them, as recorded in some news. Horror! Many evangelicals call it as murder. We await the Supreme Court to review this soon, God willing. So how on earth can any Christian honestly touching their hearts go and endorse candidates that do that?? Is there any moral values at all? Even non-Christians , a lot of them, will say that’s immoral! I think Muslims, Judaism, Buddhists will definitely endorse on pro-life side, let alone Christians! Catholics church have been vocal against abortion, but take another look, most of the candidates including the Presidential candidate this November 2020 are all Catholics and all pushing for abortion, calling pro-choice, respecting the women. Non one can beat the ingenuity of choice words to justify their actions as in America, seriously, one can relabel murder of babies to honoring choice of women and protecting the health of women.
Dignity of Marriage
Marriage is the union of one man and one woman. Marriage is the first institution of human society – indeed it is the institution on which all other human institutions have their foundation.[1]
Genesis 2:18 (ESV) 18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
It all started with God noticing that it’s not good for the man to be alone. And God decided he will make God a helper fit for him. You see that God noticed it and said that. God said it’s not good for Adam to be alone, so He made a woman out of Adam’s rib, and breathed into her, to give her life. And God handed Eve to Adam to be his wife, his helper. That’s how the marriage institution is instituted from history, as the first couple. The union of a man with a woman, that’s how God started and created the man and woman for that purpose. So to change that definition is going against God’s purpose. So marriage as God instituted is between a man and a woman.
The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man.” For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. Genesis 2:23-24
This is a profound mystery-but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Ephesians 5:32-33
Religious Liberty
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. Isaiah 61:1

The struggle for religious liberty across the centuries has been long and arduous. Religious liberty is not a novel idea or recent development, but is grounded in the character of God Himself, the God who is most fully known in the life and work of Jesus Christ. Determined to follow Jesus faithfully in life and death, the early Christians appealed to the manner in which the Incarnation had taken place: “Did God send Christ, as some suppose, as a tyrant brandishing fear and terror? Not so, but in gentleness and meekness…, for compulsion is no attribute of God” (Epistle to Diognetus 7.3-4). Thus the right to religious freedom has its foundation in the example of Christ Himself and in the very dignity of the human person created in the image of God-a dignity, as our founders proclaimed, inherent in every human, and knowable by all in the exercise of right reason.[2]
Going back to the earliest days of the church, Christians have refused to compromise their proclamation of the gospel. In Acts 4, Peter and John were ordered to stop preaching. Their answer was, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Through the centuries, Christianity has taught that civil disobedience is not only permitted, but sometimes required. [3]

As Dr Duncan mentioned, “I think we need to be “equal opportunity offenders” and say things uncomfortable both to the political left and right. Life is obviously a fundamental issue. This is one reason I signed the Manhattan Declaration.”
As we approach Presidential Election 2020 in November , the imago dei of unborn children and marriage between a man and a woman are our top thoughts as imago dei in racism issues. The Lord grants you wisdom in this election.
