AR Bernard
Visited for the 1st time Christian Culture Center in Brooklyn, NY today. A 33,000 strong members church, pentecostal/Spirit filled church. What a blessing to listen to Dr AR Bernard preaching. Even my 13 years old daughter liked it. Its engaging, teaching with substance, and finally a faith solid word preacher in the mold of Pentecostal church. Very uplifting sermon on Jeremiah 29…I have plans to bless you not to harm you. Clear expounding iof the scriptures and connected with audience. Sermons that EMPOWERS the folks to have victory in life and enjoy the life of abundance in Christ without the extra luggage of blessing only kind of sermon.
Awesome.
Message of faith & power
We are planning to visit AR Bernard’s 33,000 members church in Brooklyn this Sunday. This is the biggest church in NY and it’s Spirit filled.
They are big on Cultural Mandate with Kong Hee. I have been listening lately to Kong Hee and Joesph Prince ministry and indeed it’s faith and power kind of sermons, highly uplifting. What we need is the power of faith & Word of God to unleash the power of God to lift people up from the darkness and/or depression or economic downturn in New York. Just to prove that this is not only happening in Asia (Singapore) but also in America, I hope to see that power of God and glory of God in NY itself! I think Tim Keller touches a sector of intellectuals in NY, but the vast majority in NY are not into that intellectual philosophical sermons except the some from Columbia. Vast majority of New Yorkers & Americans need a cultural mandate and faith filled empowering messages. In Hope we have been taught on the 7 pillars of cultural civilization that we are to touch like commerce, law, education, entertainment, family, etc.
Keep you posted after the visit! 🙂 Check out my blog.
My Worship & Prayer Experience
After attending IHOP, I feel there is an input into my life in terms of passion and intimacy with Christ that I have not found before. The worship sessions moved my heart and I sensed a cry of my heart for God. Misty Edwards, Mat Gilman, etc are some of the worship leaders that have helped me much. We have so many of the songs by IHIOP and they are very enriching and empowering spiritually.
Last night we had a version of it in our prayer meeting, and indeed that was the best. We went right into the presence of God with our hearts crying for God. I sensed we touched the throne of God in some way. We prayed, but mostly we worshipped for and prayed for about 1.5 hours. It was a tremendous experience.
I believe prayer should not be cut and dry. It should be spontaneous and engaging. God must be in the center of it. A sense of us changed in prayers more than the requests we made! It’s true. We are changed by praying. Coming into the presence of God is liberating. Jesus said “Where the Spirit is, there is freedom.” I want more of God in my life. I want more of God’s presnece. I want to enjoy the presence of God more. We need to pray more.
Moses-true Prince of Israel
Amazing day today!
We are glad to have Rachel back last night and it was wonderful after her 3 weeks absence from home, noticably our Costco shopping ‘s needs decreases. But today, I got the good news that I have been offered an awesome job that is beyond my wildest dream. God has spoken and acted and I feel so humbled knowing that He loves me and cares for me. It really is beyond what I dare to hope in this kind of economy! Surely our God is faithful and his love reaches beyond the heavens!
Also on the same day today, I got the good news from New York for Urban Mission center that they have finally (after a long 3 days) firmed up a good offer for us to host our Hope N American Camp 2011 for 150-200 people at a costs within budget and that includes food, lodging, auditorium hall, breakout rooms!! Totally blown me away as this is NYC!! I was given 1 month to finalize the deal and time is clicking away as the deadline looms at Aug 5, literally I have 12 days left to cut the deal! Thank you Lord, our folks are coming to New York city next summer! 🙂 Love you Lord.
God’s infinite love and holiness
Last Sunday I preached on Abraham’s Prayer for the City of Sodom & Gomorah. He appealed to God repeatedly for the wicked cities at that time. He was like heckled God, pestered God in a most bold courageous way unseen. God accepted his petition repeatedly like 5 times. Most conservative Christians will think that he is irreverant of God but in actuality, Abraham said ” he wa sbut dust and ashes”. He was humbled and took risk with the Almighty God for his love for the cities. Though jhe knew that the very cities he was appealing for could actually kill him if he visited the cities.
Abraham knew the infinite holiness and love of God. He knew God loves the cities so much and on that premise he appealed not to destroy the cities on account of 50 righteous people or 40, 30, and eventually 10. He knew God loves so much. But he also knows God is infinite righteous and holy. He will carry out all things in His holiness. When we pray to God, we need to know these 2 great attributes of God. He is infinitely loving and holy. That we can be bold and at the same time intimate with God and risk taking with God. Honestly, no one can pray the way Abraham prayed to God unless you are a very good friend of God, very intimate with God. Abraham was God’s friend, good friend, he was intim, ate with God.
That’s the kind of generation we want to raise and be like-intimacy with God, passionate for God and the people, and risk taking!
Praying in the Spirit
One of the things that impacted me from the 2010 Hope North American camp that just concluded in Los Angeles is “Praying in the Spirit.” There is real power in praying in tongues. 1 Cor 14:18-19 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.
Therefore I will keep doing that in private as much as possible. I know that Cho Yongi, the pastor of Yoida Church of Korea, (the laregst church in the world at 800,000 members) said that the most powerful thing he has is praying for hours daily before God. We are always looking for a model for growth, and here it is, a humble servant of God, primarily basing his church on a “prayer” model .
In the book of Acts 2, Acts 1:14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women, Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. That’s what they did just before the moment the Lord poured out the Holy Spirit upon them and they all were baptized in the Holy Spirit!
