Prayer about idols

Gospel is more than just salvation. Its not the ABC of Christianity. it’s the A-Z of Christianity. All young & older people (Christians) in America will love this more than the conventional theology/prayers.
“Sometimes my need to be right is more compelling than being righteous in Christ. Sometimes my desire of control over people and circumstances claims much more time and energy in seeking your face, savoring your grace, and serving your Son, the true King. These are just some of the things that bear the mark of idolatry in my heart.
Have mercy on me, Father, free my foolish heart from giving the attention, the allegiance, the affection, the adoration you alone deserve. In Jesus Name”

HOPE NEW YORK, AMERICA NEWS

Prophecy came in July 2012 by a few prophets during our North American Conference in Seattle that our church would experience a re-birth, as if we will start anew. Through the summer, it was a trying period as several leaders left us either due to work transfer or personal preference. For a 20-people church, that was significant.

On top of that we went personally through the birth pangs of a rebirth. Doreen and I had tried for two years to no avail to move from Long Island to the city to be closer to the students and professionals. This summer, however, God spoke to me from Psalm: “Who will bring me to the fortified city? Except you O God!” I found strength in God as we applied to a few top private high schools in Manhattan for Rebecca, our 15-year-old daughter. We were in no position to pay the full tuition fees and after much research and prayer we decided to ask God for His favour as some schools do give financial aid. We thank God that Rebecca was accepted into one of the schools we applied with a bountiful amount of financial aid. God also opened the door for our house in Long Island to be rented out so that we can moved to the borough of New York city.

Pastor Ben and Dinah visited us this past week, partly to get to know Todd and Joan Heiniger, the new up-and-coming church planters passionate about working at the frontier and reaching unreached peoples for Jesus! They, with Pastor Ben & Dinah, discussed the road ahead for them. On Friday night gathering, Dinah spoke on 3 C’s- comparison, celebrate, and contentment. When we are contented and secure in what God called us and made us to be, we can be genuinely happy for others when they are successful. On Sunday morning, Pastor Ben touched the church as he shared from his heart on the paradox of our weaknesses and God’s strength . It’s good for them to connect with us, and I was personably was encouraged by them. They also gave advice to my family, too, which I greatly appreciated.

I am glad that God has started this new work amongst us; it is literally a NEW church. I feel God’s favour is turning upon us with the addition of new ones and the change of atmosphere as a consequence. Our challenges are big but our God is bigger and He is faithful and loving. New York city can be won. Pray for us and with us.

 Hope NYC church

Today is the wedding of Joan Collison & Todd Heiniger. ALl of Hope NY Church attended the wedding, a fabulous wedding reception & service. It was a great time and we all enjoyed it much. I got to dance with Doreen the first time and she enjoyed it too!

I also had the opportunity of praying for the newly wedded couple. As I opened my mouth to pray, the presence of God came down upon me and I choked with emotions. It was thick. Amazing. I begin to reminisce the old days when God’s presence will show up stringly during my time of ministry like an African pastor who told me the strong presence of God while I went up to prophecies during one of the Pastor COnference more than 10 years ago. Its still as fresh in my mind. The pastor sensed a strong sense of Go ‘s presence even as I started to pray and he sensed prophetic & apostolic anointing that was strong. I love those moments. May the Lord continue to show me such as I journey on building our church in New York.

God bless America. Thank you Lord!

Desiring God- Psalm 63

Today I spoke about Desiring God. It’s amazing to note that though God is a mighty God with unlimited ability and power, he is really like a man looking for love. He is the God who is looking for our love. For love from us! On one hand he wants us to love him, He loves us tremendously as He demonstrated with all finality, on the cross, bleeding for us all. On the other hand, we want him to bless us and help us when we are in lack and in times of difficulty.

Desiring God and loving God is the number 1 commandment of God. To love the Lord with all our hearts, souls, and might. But many times we come to God and seek Him because of the benefits we can get out of him or what blessings we can get out of him. That’s NOT the seeking that David described in Psalm 73. That’s the general seeking at the elementary level when we first come to know God. The authentic christian experience is when we seek Him and love him for who he is and not for what blessings he can give us.

Jonathan Edward said-Authentic christianity is we seek him for who he is and not for the benefits we can get out of him. Have you found God? You have found God when you start seeking him for who he is.

Praise God -1st House church Meeting

Great worship, prayer , teaching, sharing time last night. 1st House Group with 1st lesson on “Meaning of Anointing”. Small group but it’s going to cause ripples and fill the whole pond-as one prophecy was given last night. Awesome to have Todd HeinigerJoan CollisonPeter Tunping WangChristina Chen with Doreen & I. It was a blast!

Prayer and worship started in a spontaneous way with everything flowing like a river. It’s really the Spirit of God with us. The presence of God was awesome. We then had a 40 min teaching on “Meaning and definition of Anointing”-MP3 shall be posted.

Anointing of God is given to those who are consecrated and for doing his work. Fulfilling His purpose. It’s a sacred thing. The oil of anointing of Aaron that flows down his beard. The anointing flows downwards from leadership and not upwards from bottom up. We need to change our attitude to be far more respectful and submissive to authority and eldership in America. Churches suffer from  alack of it because of our love for freedom which is misconstrued. Real freedom is found in submission to Christ!

Sept 2, 2012 will be memorable

Sept 2, 2012 will always be memorable. It’s the 1st Sunday service after a few weeks break over summer and marks the 1st service of the new era as per prophecy given to Doreen over NACC Camp by John Jacks. Interestingly it really is a new experience. In our newly rented place, the internet was still not installed after a 2-week wait, a pretty pathetic service by Time Warner, known for their bad service. I usually email my message to myself so I can always download it in church just in case. As it turns out, there is no internetr, and on Sunday before going to church I loaded my laptop into our van and planning to swap to our Toyota car for a smaller car. But when I swapped car, I forgot about the laptop left in the van.

I arrived in church and realized that I had to preach from memory! I prayed and asked God for help and jotted down the main themes and points and thoughts. And it was a great experience, I free flowed and spoke a lot from my heart and experience based on the conceptual points, and it was a good service. New preaching too. The Lord took over, so to speak, in some ways.

Though attendance is low, I saw one unbeliever who was brought by her daughter. She profusely thanked us for the community and she dropped in a check too as her offering to our church.

I believe God will bring a in new harvest in a fast way. Coming up!

The rebirth of Hope NY Church & our journey

The rebirth of Hope NY Church & our journey

August 31, 2012

Sept 2, 2012 is the real re-birth of our church. To begin with, Doreen & I had been praying and planning to move into the City of New York for 2 years now with the goal to be close to our beloved church Hope NY. We had been pastoring our church in Manhattan literally from our home with a distance of 1.5 hours drive or train. SO much conviction about the need to live among the people you want to reach out to makes us resolved to move. God spoke to us in Isaiah: Who will bring us into the fortified city, except the Lord our God?

I have gone through so much spiritual warfare’s before this date that it’s incredible and all I can say is my soul praises the Lord for He has heard my cries and shielded me from the storm and the forces that had been unleashed against me, my family and in my sense, the church’s rebirth. It’s about the big harvest God will bring into Hope NY Church starting Sept 2 and in a fast pace according to the prophecy given to us back in July 2012 in the NA Camp by John Jacks. The prophecy is so accurate to the extent it’s breath-taking and the promise of God to us is even more breath-gasping. The work that the Lord told us He will do, instead of us, is like He answering from a mighty storm.

We have gone through the challenge of getting our Syosset house to be rented out starting from July 1 when we spent thousands of dollars to repaint the house and fixed little things here and there; and when it was finally rented out after 3.5 weeks (we felt nervous by then); we had literally 1 week to find our new rental home in the right city. After 1 + month’s search that brought us to Hamilton heights, Upper West side, Roosevelt island, we finally picked Forest Hills for its good neighborhood, the bang for the dollars, and close proximity of subway commute (20 min) to midtown. We combed every rental home in the city within our budget and time was running out…and thank God that finally we got a gorgeous looking house and we got it. We would had to move into a hotel and put tons of stuff in a storage otherwise!

Moving out of Syosset house was a nightmare with so much stuff accumulated over the years. Worst still is our cleaner didn’t turn up on Sunday as promised and scheduled on the day we moved out (8/19) and as a result, we worked from 10 pm till 3 am in Syosset house to get the house clean enough for tenant to move in on 8/20 Monday. As it turned out, it was not good enough for tenant, and I got nasty emails and calls from him. My heart sank as this financial impact from this rental is very important for us to survive financially in Queens/NYC. A few more days of anguish and we sent another pro cleaner for 2 hours ($210) to further clean up the house for tenant. Finally that storm passed.

Another new storm began just as soon as the previous one settled. The dust barely settled, before we found another, perhaps bigger storm looming. Suddenly we had to re-look at our son’s senior year in Syosset HS . Heart anguish and turmoil as this is being brought into question. I prayed and fasted the day before making this phone call to the principal this morning. He returned call, and we had a nice chat about the situation. Initially he had his doubts, but after him hearing the good news that Rebecca got into a top private school Chapin School in Upper East side Manhattan, he was so excited for us! I concluded all is good and in the Lord’s hands.  Trust the Lord with all my heart for He is good.

After all these storms, I am ready for the sunshine kicking off Sept with the new church’s rebirth! Thank you Lord.

Incredible Move

Last few weeks had been most stressful and still going through it though with great relief that our house is rented out and we found a good house in Forest Hills. All within tight window to many people’s amazement. How did I pull this off with 4 kids at home within a tight window?

God has incredible-we received financial blessings, emotional & prayer support. And quite incredibly I got most from my office colleagues who brain stormed with me on renting process, hunting for house, city choice. I am thankful to my colleagues. Thank God who blessed me with my job with Con Ed and with the recent strike, God provided me extra OT income at just the right time. Thank all for your prayers.

I am excited to see God’s work in the months ahead starting September! Ps 108:10-11 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? 11 Is it not you, O God

After all these, we need a vacation…yes, one away from NY next week. 🙂

Glorious Inaugural Hope NY Camp April 2012

Dear pastors:

Praise the Lord, we had a great camp! Enjoy the pictures!

We had a wonderful awesome camp/retreat over the last weekend. Some 25 of us packed in this retreat place in New Jersey. We had sound system, great praise & worship, 5 sessions of teachings. We had a couple of folks from Boston & CT too.  People gave very positive feedback, more coming. The teachings were solid in expository form on Acts 1-2 and people were far more tuned in than the last time I taught Covenant church.

Think the session climaxed for my self when I said in my preaching that as I was preparing for the camp,  I prayed to the Lord I wanted this camp to succeed so much because of previous failure experiences in retreat. I cried out to the Lord that I  stake my reputation on this camp, and the Lord spoke to me, “No, its not yours, it’s mine.” Amazingly I never cried when I prayed that, but as I said that in my preaching, I choked and broke down and wept in front of the camp folks. At that time, the atmosphere was intense and the presence of the Lord was tangible. Sarah said that was pretty powerful! (I guess I realized that God said He staked His reputation on this camp! Imagine that!! )And she learnt more from this camp than any others. I spoke on the truth & the power of the Holy Spirit, the fullness of the Spirit and preparing a life altar for the Lord to pour out the fire.

Our invited speaker Ashley Byrd, a full time staff with Inter Varsity-Columbia spoke well and gently with inspirational story about the struggle of a 15 year old African prince who had to carry her dad for 15 km a day to get a pill.-pretty inspiraing. He spoke on “Who you are is more important than what you do for God”.

God willing, we will host another retreat in the Fall with the freshman students in.

Surrendering Your Dream to Have God’s–Matt 19:16-25

Sunday Sermon (Feb 12)
Surrendering Your Dream to Have God’s

When a morally upright rich young man came to Jesus, he felt empty and asked the question: What do I still lack? He seemed to have everything. Money, power, morally upright life. But Jesus gave an outrageous answer and he walked away grieved. Is God asking us to surrender your dreams and have his dream?

Matt 19:16-25 16 Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only one who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” the man inquired. Jesus replied, “‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.'” 20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”
